Chapter 370

Jamison, though clearly frustrated, still asked considerately, โ€œDo you want me to pick you up? Youโ€™ve got a lot of stuff to move.โ€

Ivyโ€™s temper flared the moment she heard that. โ€œPick me up? Youโ€™re supposed to be recovering, not playing chauffeur! Can you please just stay home and rest for once? Stop running around!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m just trying to help.โ€

โ€œNo need. Iโ€™m only bringing a few clothes anyway.โ€ She was about to start college and would most likely be living on campus, not with him, so there was no point hauling everything over to his place.

Jamison started to protest, but Ivy cut him off. โ€œMy phoneโ€™s about to die. If you need anything, letโ€™s talk tonight.โ€

She didnโ€™t wait for his replyโ€“just hung up straight away.

Boyd, whoโ€™d been sitting nearby, watched as Jamison set his phone down in frustration. Boyd chuckled awkwardly. โ€œYour little auntโ€™s gotโ€ฆ quite the personality.โ€

Jamison shot him a sideways glare. โ€œYou think this is funny?โ€

โ€œMe? Wouldnโ€™t dare, Uncle.โ€

When Ivy got home, sheโ€™d barely finished unlocking the door when Katrina, sitting in the living room, let out an excited shriek and flew at her.

โ€œOh my god, youโ€™re finally home! I missed you so much!โ€

Katrina, still wearing a face mask, spread her arms wide for a hug.

Ivy frowned, looking unimpressed. โ€œWhat on earth are you doing?โ€

โ€œFace mask, obviously!โ€ Katrina replied. โ€œAll those late nights working on my thesis, I was starting to look like a zombie. But as soon as I heard you were coming back, I took a shower, put on clean clothes, lit a scented candle, and washed my handsโ€“got the whole place ready to welcome you!โ€

Ivy couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œYouโ€™ve been locked up alone, losing your mind, havenโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œHonestly? Iโ€™m bored out of my skull!โ€ Katrina peeled off her face mask and headed to the bathroom, calling out, โ€œUnlike you, running off on a road trip with Dr. Ludwig. It was like you were on a honeymoon! You probably didnโ€™t even want to come home!โ€

Ivy flopped onto the couch, letting herself sink into its familiar comfort. Nowhere felt as relaxing as her own place.

โ€œDonโ€™t even get me started. That trip was way more intense than I bargained for.โ€

Katrina quickly washed her face and dashed back out, curiosity written all over her. โ€œWhat happened? Did you get in trouble?โ€

โ€œYeahโ€ฆโ€

Ivy had so much bottled up inside, and now, finally seeing her best friend, she couldnโ€™t help but spill everything.

Katrina listened, nervously biting her lip, her whole face scrunched up in suspense.

โ€œOh my godโ€ฆ Those people were insane! How does something like that even happen these days?โ€

She gasped again and again, unable to believe what she was hearing.

When Ivy finished, Katrina sat in stunned silence for a long moment, then suddenly threw her arms around her.

โ€œThank God you got awayโ€ฆ If you hadnโ€™t, theyโ€™d never have cracked that human trafficking ring so fast, and those poor girls might never have been rescued. If youโ€™d run into a truly evil family, who knows what might have happened to youโ€ฆโ€

It was true.

If Ivy hadnโ€™t been lucky enough to meet Silly, her life could have ended up just like Sillyโ€™s motherโ€™sโ€“or worse.

At least Sillyโ€™s mother had eventually seen her son do well and was reunited with her family.

โ€œI know,โ€ Ivy murmured, her voice a little shaky. โ€œIโ€™ve been thinking about that nonstop. I was luckyโ€“met the right people, managed to escape.โ€

โ€œAs the old saying goes, โ€˜What doesnโ€™t kill you makes you stronger.โ€™ So now youโ€™ve met Dr. Ludwig, and lookโ€“heโ€™s risking everything for you. He must really love you. Your happy days are just beginning!โ€
