Chapter 371
Listening to her best friendโs words of comfort, Ivy felt a tangle of emotions. Her mind drifted again to Jamisonโs deception โ she could only hope that man would bring her happiness, not more storms.
Despite sharing almost everything with Katrina, Ivy had kept the truth about Jamison being Dr. Handsome to herself. She worried Katrina might slip up and accidentally say something in front of Jamison. Ivy wasnโt about to let him off the hook that easily โ she still owed him a little payback.
โI just came to see you,โ Ivy said, glancing at the clock. โIโll pack a few things and head over to his place. Heโs hurt, and someone needs to look after him for a few days.โ
She stood and started gathering her things.
Katrina followed her upstairs. โWhy not just move in with him?โ she asked, curiosity bright in her eyes.
โNo need,โ Ivy replied, folding a shirt. โIโll be heading back to school in a few days anyway.โ
โYouโre planning to stay on campus?โ Katrina looked genuinely surprised.
โYeah. I donโt want to keep running back and forth.โ
โDid Dr. Ludwig agree to that?โ
Ivyโs tone was calm, almost indifferent. โItโs been chaos lately, so I havenโt discussed it with him. But honestly, it doesnโt matter. I married him, not sold myself to him. I still have my freedom.โ
And truth be told, after realizing he was Dr. Handsome and had played her for so long, she could barely stand the idea of taking care of him at all right now.
Katrina grinned. โIf I had a man whoโd spend that much on me, Iโd sign my rights away with a smile.โ
โHopeless romantic,โ Ivy teased, shaking her head.
She was only halfway through packing when Jamisonโs name flashed across her phone screen. She muted the call, pretending not to notice.
But a moment later, Katrinaโs phone started ringing.
โHeโs calling me now,โ Katrina said, raising an eyebrow. โYouโd better pick up, or heโll probably show up here to drag you back himself.โ
Ivy paused, realizing Katrina was probably right. She sighed and quickly called Jamison back.
โI was starting to think youโd run off and left me at the altar,โ Jamisonโs teasing voice came through, cool as ever.
Ivy laughed, answering in an exaggerated tone, โIโm not that heartless. Itโs not every day someone spends a fortune on me โ or risks their life for me, come to think of it.โ
Dr. Ludwig sounded quite pleased with this answer. โGood. Now hurry back โ I need someone to take care of me.โ
โDonโt you have staff at the house?โ Ivy countered.
โThey can cook and clean,โ Jamison replied. โBut can they help me shower?โ
Ivy blushed so hard she could feel the heat through the phone, lips pressed tight as she searched for a comeback โ and found none.
After she hung up, Katrina was smirking. โDidnโt know Dr. Ludwig was so needy. You two are a real couple now!โ
Ivy just rolled her eyes, speechless.
She finished packing and was just about to leave when Katrina suddenly remembered something. โOh, by the way, you got a letter yesterday โ a courier dropped it off.โ
Ivy took the envelope, frowning at the lack of a senderโs name. She tore it open, and to her surprise, found an elegant invitation card inside.
โWho even sends these anymore?โ Katrina muttered, peering over her shoulder. โDoesnโt everyone use e-invites these days? Who pays for paper cards?โ
Ivy said nothing. A strange sense of foreboding crept over her as she opened the card โ and sure enough, her instincts were right.
โEmma Windsorโs getting engaged?โ Katrina exclaimed, nearly dropping the card in shock. โTo who? That was fast! After all the drama she stirred up, who would dare marry her?โ
Ivy was surprised too, but the more she thought about it, the more it made sense.
Emma had always been bold, decisive, and ruthless โ traits Ivy couldnโt help but respect. Sheโd set her sights on Mr. Carter, and Emma was the type who would pull out all the stops to lock him down before anyone could change their minds.
