Chapter 371

Listening to her best friendโ€™s words of comfort, Ivy felt a tangle of emotions. Her mind drifted again to Jamisonโ€™s deception โ€“ she could only hope that man would bring her happiness, not more storms.

Despite sharing almost everything with Katrina, Ivy had kept the truth about Jamison being Dr. Handsome to herself. She worried Katrina might slip up and accidentally say something in front of Jamison. Ivy wasnโ€™t about to let him off the hook that easily โ€“ she still owed him a little payback.

โ€œI just came to see you,โ€ Ivy said, glancing at the clock. โ€œIโ€™ll pack a few things and head over to his place. Heโ€™s hurt, and someone needs to look after him for a few days.โ€

She stood and started gathering her things.

Katrina followed her upstairs. โ€œWhy not just move in with him?โ€ she asked, curiosity bright in her eyes.

โ€œNo need,โ€ Ivy replied, folding a shirt. โ€œIโ€™ll be heading back to school in a few days anyway.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re planning to stay on campus?โ€ Katrina looked genuinely surprised.

โ€œYeah. I donโ€™t want to keep running back and forth.โ€

โ€œDid Dr. Ludwig agree to that?โ€

Ivyโ€™s tone was calm, almost indifferent. โ€œItโ€™s been chaos lately, so I havenโ€™t discussed it with him. But honestly, it doesnโ€™t matter. I married him, not sold myself to him. I still have my freedom.โ€

And truth be told, after realizing he was Dr. Handsome and had played her for so long, she could barely stand the idea of taking care of him at all right now.

Katrina grinned. โ€œIf I had a man whoโ€™d spend that much on me, Iโ€™d sign my rights away with a smile.โ€

โ€œHopeless romantic,โ€ Ivy teased, shaking her head.

She was only halfway through packing when Jamisonโ€™s name flashed across her phone screen. She muted the call, pretending not to notice.

But a moment later, Katrinaโ€™s phone started ringing.

โ€œHeโ€™s calling me now,โ€ Katrina said, raising an eyebrow. โ€œYouโ€™d better pick up, or heโ€™ll probably show up here to drag you back himself.โ€

Ivy paused, realizing Katrina was probably right. She sighed and quickly called Jamison back.

โ€œI was starting to think youโ€™d run off and left me at the altar,โ€ Jamisonโ€™s teasing voice came through, cool as ever.

Ivy laughed, answering in an exaggerated tone, โ€œIโ€™m not that heartless. Itโ€™s not every day someone spends a fortune on me โ€“ or risks their life for me, come to think of it.โ€

Dr. Ludwig sounded quite pleased with this answer. โ€œGood. Now hurry back โ€“ I need someone to take care of me.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t you have staff at the house?โ€ Ivy countered.

โ€œThey can cook and clean,โ€ Jamison replied. โ€œBut can they help me shower?โ€

Ivy blushed so hard she could feel the heat through the phone, lips pressed tight as she searched for a comeback โ€“ and found none.

After she hung up, Katrina was smirking. โ€œDidnโ€™t know Dr. Ludwig was so needy. You two are a real couple now!โ€

Ivy just rolled her eyes, speechless.

She finished packing and was just about to leave when Katrina suddenly remembered something. โ€œOh, by the way, you got a letter yesterday โ€“ a courier dropped it off.โ€

Ivy took the envelope, frowning at the lack of a senderโ€™s name. She tore it open, and to her surprise, found an elegant invitation card inside.

โ€œWho even sends these anymore?โ€ Katrina muttered, peering over her shoulder. โ€œDoesnโ€™t everyone use e-invites these days? Who pays for paper cards?โ€

Ivy said nothing. A strange sense of foreboding crept over her as she opened the card โ€“ and sure enough, her instincts were right.

โ€œEmma Windsorโ€™s getting engaged?โ€ Katrina exclaimed, nearly dropping the card in shock. โ€œTo who? That was fast! After all the drama she stirred up, who would dare marry her?โ€

Ivy was surprised too, but the more she thought about it, the more it made sense.

Emma had always been bold, decisive, and ruthless โ€“ traits Ivy couldnโ€™t help but respect. Sheโ€™d set her sights on Mr. Carter, and Emma was the type who would pull out all the stops to lock him down before anyone could change their minds.
