Chapter 106
Aiden was living a nightmare in the mental hospital. He finally realized that his life was entirely in Siennaโs hands, and she had stopped seeing him as a father long ago.
Ever since he drove Vivian and her sisters out, or maybe even when he first started ignoring themโฆ Thinking back on everything heโd done, Aidenโs gaze grew unfocused, his eyes dull and lifeless.
โMeal time!โ came an unfriendly shout.
Aiden flinched instinctively when he saw the overweight, middle-aged man pushing a food cart toward him. His eyes were wide with terror as he clung tightly to the arms of his wheelchair.
โMr. Hart, I made your favorite dish today. Iโm sure youโll love it,โ the man said with a smirk.
He opened the tray, revealing a disgusting mess. Aidenโs stomach churned, and he turned pale, fighting back the urge to vomit.
โDonโt you like my cooking, Mr. Hart? Should I call Mrs. Slade over?โ the man asked, his tone dripping with mockery.
At the mention of โMrs. Slade,โ Aidenโs eyes widened in terror. โNo, no, donโt! Iโll eat it. I like it,โ he stammered.
With tears in his eyes, he picked up a stale piece of bread and shoved it into his mouth. That woman, Mrs. Slade, was downright malicious, and despite her age, she was always getting handsy with him.
He deeply regretted not having listened to Siennaโs advice. All she ever wanted was for him to kick Jocelyn out and make her go back to being a Turner. Jocelyn was never really his daughter anyway; she didnโt have to pretend to be a perfect one.
Now, the taste of regret in his mouth was just as sickening and hard to swallow as that disgusting piece of bread.
This was all because of that Linda, always stirring up trouble between them.
โCan I please make a phone call? Just a couple minutes, Iโm begging you,โ Aiden pleaded desperately.
The man let out a cold laugh and clamped Aidenโs chin in his fat fingers. โYouโre still sick. Whatโs the point of calling anyone? Eat up. When youโre done, itโs time for your โrehab.โโ
Aiden didnโt dare say another word. โRehab,โ for him, was nothing but more pain and torment. He knew exactly what was waiting for him.
If he hadnโt fallen out with Sienna, heโd still be living large as Mr. Hart. Honestly, Sienna wasnโt so bad. She even bought him that fancy watch. It was his own fault for trusting the wrong people. He let himself get suckered in by Lindaโs empty praise, just to prop up his own pitiful excuse for self-esteem.
Sienna stood by the window, gazing out over the city. โMiss Enna, Jocelyn has been in contact with someone named Sheryl. Hereโs her file,โ Lana said, handing over a folder.
Sienna glanced at it casually, a knowing smile curling on her lips. โI was just looking for a stepping stone, and look, itโs dropped right into my lap like a lucky gift.โ
Lana bowed her head respectfully. โMiss Enna, I finally understand why youโve been turning a blind eye to Jocelyn all this time.โ
โBy the way, howโs our patient in the psych ward doing?โ Sienna asked, her tone casual and a little mocking. She wasnโt planning to let anything happen to Aiden just yet. He was still far too useful to her.
โAs you instructed, Miss Enna, Mr. Hartโs been having a pretty rough time lately. Do you want me to turn up the heat a bit more?โ Lana asked respectfully.
Sienna took a seat, her fingers drumming lightly on the desk. After a brief pause, she said, โLetโs leave it for now. Lana, thereโs some trouble in the Middle East. I might have to go there myself.โ
Lana quickly suggested, โMiss Enna, things are a mess over there. Why not send Reno instead? She can handle it, and you wonโt have to run around yourself.โ
Lana understood that Sienna was actually seeking her opinion. If Miss Sienna truly intended to go in person, she wouldnโt have said โmight.โ She only said that to give Lana a chance to offer the perfect suggestion.
Sienna nodded in satisfaction. โAlright, let her go. Just tell her to be careful.โ
โYes, Miss Sienna.โ Lana nodded.
Just as Lana was about to turn and notify Reno, she heard Sienna call out, โYour bonus is doubled this month.โ
Lana was overjoyed and bowed. โThank you, Miss Enna.โ
One hundred and seventy thousand, just like that.
This time, Jocelyn was almost certain to win. Hart Corporation was bound to go bankrupt, and all she had to do was sit back and wait.
Humming a little tune as she made her way upstairs, she suddenly found herself in darkness. A sack dropped from above and swiftly enveloped her. Just as she was about to cry out, someone knocked her unconscious with a club.
The guy driving the car loaded her in, then pulled out his phone and made a call. โWinifred, weโre bringing her over right now.โ
โOkay,โ Winifred replied.
