Chapter 134

As they were about to leave, Miles quickly threw on his coat and rushed downstairs to stop them. “Walt, wait! You said your sister is injured. How serious is it? Why didn’t you take her to the hospital?” he asked.

Amber looked him up and down and answered honestly. “We didn’t go to the hospital. She hurt her arm.”

When the family doctor heard it was Sienna–who had recently caused a huge stir in Vallaris and was a truly legendary figure–he was absolutely thrilled. He never expected to have the chance to meet someone so famous. Just the thought of it made him excited. There was no way he could charge for this. Even though he was a man, he still had female idols. Besides, she wasn’t just powerful, she was also incredibly beautiful.

Miles put on a serious face. “Amber, let me go with you. Your sister and I are business partners, so there’s no need for the family doctor to come.”

“Wait, why?” The doctor asked, looking confused. His daydream of finally meeting Sienna was crushed in an instant.

Claire put her hands on her hips, frustrated. “Miles, what are you doing? We already said Sienna’s hurt. If you’re not bringing a doctor, why are you going? Are you suddenly a doctor now?”

What’s up with Miles today? He’s usually so steady, but now he’s acting completely off. What’s the point of him coming along? Sienna’s hurt, not looking to talk business. Is he seriously thinking about work right now? He’s nuts, Claire thought.

Miles gave Claire a light tap on the head. “Hurry up and get in the car. Dr. Raminer, sorry for making you come all the way here. I’ll cover your travel expenses, so you can head back now."

“Okay,” the doctor replied, sounding totally deflated.

Claire swatted his hand away, clearly irritated. “Miles, what are you doing?”

Miles ignored Claire and looked at Amber with a warm, gentle expression, his voice soft as he said, “Don’t worry, I’ll get in touch with Jason Everett right away. He’s really good at what he does.”

Amber nodded. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” Miles said.

Claire stared at him in shock, her mouth twitching as she pinched her own leg, trying to make sense of the situation. The pain made her gasp. She blinked hard, still not believing her eyes.

Who the heck is this? This can’t be Miles. He must be losing it, Claire thought.

“Ah!” Claire yelled, startling both Miles and Amber.

Miles shot her a glare, frowning in annoyance. “Claire, are you crazy? Don’t you know you’re scaring people?”

Claire leaned in, giving him a thorough once-over from head to toe, then asked suspiciously. “Are you really Miles Quinn?”

“Claire!” Miles let out a frustrated sigh, rubbing his temples.

The whole way there, Claire just couldn’t figure out why Miles had suddenly become so gentle. She felt a chill run down her spine, goosebumps breaking out all over her arms. She even started wondering if he had some serious illness.

When they got out of the car, Claire watched Amber walk ahead and suddenly had a realization. Miles must have had some bad intentions toward Amber, which was why he had been so gentle.

Man, is he serious? Does he seriously not realize how old he is? Trying to rob the cradle–does he even have any shame left! Claire thought.

I won't let Miles get away with it. She would never let her best friend fall into his clutches!

Miles was just telling Amber that Jason would be arriving soon when he turned around and got slapped across the face.

Amber's eyes widened in shock as she stepped back.
