Chapter 133

Claire was about to defend her, but Amber stopped her. Crossing her arms, she proudly said, "Why should I explain anything to you? The teachers graded it, so if you have a problem, go talk to them.โ€

โ€œArenโ€™t you scared Iโ€™ll report you?โ€ the girl snapped, furious that Amber dared talk back like that.

Amber just waved her off, her tone full of swagger. โ€œGo on, if youโ€™ve got the nerve!โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ the girl spluttered, totally speechless.

Then Amber and Claire strutted off together, heads held high.

โ€œAmber, the way you talk cracks me up! The look on their faces was priceless,โ€ Claire said, still laughing.

โ€œThey totally asked for it. Why should I have to prove anything to them? I just want to prove it to Sienna, no, to myself,โ€ Amber replied, her voice steady and confident.

Amber glanced down at her report card, a small smile tugging at her lips. โ€œSienna would probably be a little proud of me, right?โ€ she thought.

After all, Amber had made incredible progress. She wasnโ€™t going to stop now. If she was going to study, she was going to go all the wayโ€“getting perfect scores in every subject was the best way to prove herself, both to Sienna and to herself.

Iโ€™m going to be Siennaโ€™s pride. Sienna likes people with good grades, right? If I become number one, then sheโ€™ll have no choice but to like only me. Vivian, Claireโ€“they can all take a back seat. Iโ€™ll be the only one at the top, Amber thought, her eyes shining with determination.

Meanwhile, in the crowd, a pair of eyes were locked onto Amberโ€™s back. Mia stared at her own report card. No matter how hard she tried, Mia still couldnโ€™t break into the top hundred. Her bitterness toward Amber hadnโ€™t faded one bit.

Amber, are you doing this on purpose? We used to be friends, and now youโ€™re just trying to make me look foolish. You always said I had better grades, but now, in our last semester, youโ€™ve crushed me. Amber, you really are calculating. And Claire tooโ€“damn her! Mia thought, resentment boiling inside her.

Mia glared at her report card, then secretly dropped a prepared letter of accusation into the principalโ€™s mailbox before leaving without a sound.

Claire took Amber straight back to her house, where they ran into Miles in the living room, reading a book. โ€œClaire, do you have to be so loud all the time?โ€ Miles said, his voice calm but a bit exasperated.

Why canโ€™t this girl ever calm down! Sheโ€™s so noisy every day, Miles thought, shaking his head.

But when he noticed the cute girl standing next to Claire, Miles paused for a moment, then quickly apologized. โ€œSorry, is this your friend? I wonโ€™t bother you two. Enjoy yourselves.โ€

With that he started to get up, but Claire quickly ran over. โ€œMiles, I need to talk to you about something.โ€

Miles closed his book and looked at her. โ€œWhat is it?โ€

โ€œMiles, Amberโ€™s sister is hurt. Can you help us find a doctor to treat her?โ€ Claire asked, her voice urgent.

Miles adjusted his glasses, realizing it wasnโ€™t as serious as he had thought. โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll have the family doctor join you shortly.โ€

Amber thanked him, and Miles just gave her a faint smile. โ€œDonโ€™t mention it. You two have fun!โ€

The family doctor was summoned and came over to Claire. โ€œMiss Claire, where are we headed?โ€

โ€œTo the Hart familyโ€™s home. Donโ€™t worry, weโ€™ll be back soon,โ€ Claire replied.

Upstairs, Miles, sipping water, looked confused. โ€œThe Hart family! Claire, which Hart family do you mean?โ€

Claire waved him off casually. โ€œCome on, thereโ€™s only one Hart family in all of Vallarisโ€“the Hart Corporation. Amberโ€™s sister is Sienna Hart herself.โ€

Miles nearly choked on his water at the mention of the name. Coughing hard, his face turned bright red. Miles looked at Amber in surprise, never imagining her to be from that family.
