Chapter 136

Jason got the call and rushed over to the Hart residence, anxiety twisting in his gut. Why didnโ€™t Sienna tell me she was hurt? And why was it Miles who called me instead? It must be something really serious, Jason thought, worry gnawing at him.

โ€œHowโ€™s Sienna? Take me to her,โ€ Jason called out as soon as he saw Amber, urging her to lead the way inside.

Miles and Claire quickly followed them in.

Sienna heard Ebert announce the guests and got up to greet them, only to see Jason and Miles standing there.

Jon rushed over, scanning her body for any injuries. โ€œEnna, where are you hurt? Let me take a look!โ€

Sienna was completely confused, caught off guard by the sudden commotion.

Amber chimed in, โ€œSienna hurt her arm. Come check it for her.โ€

Sienna was speechless; judging by the fuss, she was starting to get the picture.

โ€œMiss Enna, sorry if we disturbed you. Your sister was just really worried about you,โ€ Miles said, trying to ease the tension.

Sienna caught sight of the glaring red handprint on Milesโ€™ face and thought that he really needed a checkup.

โ€œYouโ€™re too polite, Mr. Quinn. Please, come in,โ€ Sienna replied with a smile.

Jason examined her arm, then shot a confused look at Miles and Amber. He had thought it was a serious condition, but he didnโ€™t expect it to be just a small scratch.

Jason was about to downplay it, but then he noticed the darkened edges of the wound. His brow furrowed slightly. โ€œEnna, what did this to you?โ€ he asked, his tone turning serious. If he was right, whatever had caused the scratch was likely coated in poison.

Sienna kept her voice steady, โ€œItโ€™s really nothing, just a little scratch from walking around. Sorry to make you come all the way here, Jason.โ€

Jason picked up on her meaning right away. โ€œCome on, donโ€™t be so polite. What are friends for?โ€

โ€œSienna, Iโ€™m so glad youโ€™re okay. You have no idea how worried Amber was about you this morning. She couldnโ€™t focus on anything all day,โ€ Claire chimed in, relief clear in her voice.

Amberโ€™s face turned bright red at Claireโ€™s words. She stiffened, avoiding Siennaโ€™s gaze, and crossed her arms over her chest, trying to brush it off. โ€œIโ€™m not distracted,โ€ she mumbled.

โ€œThanks, Amber,โ€ Sienna said softly, her tone warm.

Claireโ€™s eyes were filled with envy, her inner voice sulking. Sienna is so gentle. Why canโ€™t I have a sister like that? I only have an older brother who doesnโ€™t understand humor and is way too serious. Life is so unfair.

โ€œSienna, weโ€“โ€ Claire started, but before she could finish, her stomach let out a loud growl, cutting her off. She was so embarrassed she wished she could just disappear into the ground.

Seeing her sisterโ€™s embarrassment, Miles stood up first. โ€œMiss Enna, since youโ€™re okay, I think we should head out. Apologies for the disturbance today. Wishing you a speedy recovery.โ€

Sienna smiled and offered, โ€œWhy donโ€™t you stay for dinner before you leave?โ€

Claireโ€™s eyes instantly sparkled at the invitation, but Miles shut her down. โ€œNo, weโ€™ve already disturbed you enough. Come on, Claire, letโ€™s go home.โ€

Sienna stood up to see them off. โ€œMr. Quinn, take care. Letโ€™s have some coffee together sometime.โ€

โ€œSounds good, Miss Enna. No need to see us out,โ€ Miles replied with a polite nod.

Miles left, dragging a dejected Claire, who was sulking about missing dinner, all the way home.

As soon as they got in the car, Claire pointedly turned her head away, giving Miles the cold shoulder. He sighed helplessly. โ€œClaire, this was our first time visiting. Can you please try to have some manners!โ€

Claire shot back, โ€œManners donโ€™t fill my stomach! Besides, we ate at their place this time, and next time Amber can bring Sienna over to ours. Do you have any idea how much Iโ€™ve been dying to eat at Amberโ€™s place?โ€

โ€œHaving dinner with Sienna is my dream. He just doesnโ€™t get it. No wonder he doesnโ€™t have a girlfriend. He can just stay single and lonely forever!โ€ Claire thought.

Miles was left speechless.

After eating his fill, Jason casually reclined on the couch, looking completely satisfied, with no hint of the usual awkwardness one might feel in someone elseโ€™s home.

โ€œEnna, you really get things done. Wayne beat Ethan so badly he couldnโ€™t get out of bed for days. And Wayne even told Nora that if she wasnโ€™t happy, she should divorce him. This time, their marriage might really be over,โ€ Jason said casually.

Jason looked up at Sienna. Her eyes were cool and indifferent, with flawless skin but faint dark circles under her eyes, a clear sign of lack of sleep.

โ€œEnna, anything you want to say? Actually, you donโ€™t even have to. I get it. None of us wanted things to end up like this. After all these years, itโ€™s sad to see it end like this. Honestly, Ethan messed up,โ€ Jason let out a long sigh.

Even if Ethan didnโ€™t cheat physically, what he did was already emotional cheating, no doubt about it. Noraโ€™s temporary compromise was only for the sake of the children. This was indeed Ethanโ€™s fault, so he must face the consequences of his actions.

Sienna replied calmly, โ€œI donโ€™t have much to say. They make their own choices, and they have to face the consequences. No matter how harsh, theyโ€™re inevitable.โ€

Trouble doesnโ€™t come out of nowhere, she thought. If Ethan hadnโ€™t strayed, Nora wouldnโ€™t have divorced him. He brought this on himself. Who else could he blame? He didnโ€™t even think about the consequences before letting himself go wild. Is that what an adult is supposed to do?

Jason agreed, โ€œBy the way, Preston Corporation is hosting an anniversary event tomorrow night. Are you going?โ€

Sienna nodded. โ€œYeah, Iโ€™m going. Nora will be there.โ€

Jasonโ€™s eyes sparkled with excitement. There was bound to be some drama. โ€œCount me in.โ€

Amber was surprised to learn that Vivian had gone abroad. Suddenly, she saw this as an opportunity to sleep in the same room as Sienna.

But then the thought was quickly dampened when she remembered Siennaโ€™s injured arm. Her excitement faded instantly.

Amber glanced at the report card in her hands and lingered outside Siennaโ€™s room for a while, but she still didnโ€™t knock on the door.

Elisa noticed Amber in her bunny pajamas, hesitating outside Siennaโ€™s room. After watching her for a few minutes, she picked up the phone and called Sienna.

When Sienna found out Amber was outside her door, she opened it to find Amber still standing there, looking lost.

โ€œItโ€™s just a report card. Thereโ€™s really no need to show her,โ€ Amber thought. โ€œItโ€™s not even first place. Just tenth place. Maybe I should just wait until I actually get first placeโ€”then I can really surprise her.โ€

Amber clutched the report card tight, biting her lip as she made up her mind to just go back to bed. But the moment she turned around, she nearly jumped out of her skinโ€“Sienna was standing right there in the doorway, watching her.

Amber yelped in surprise, totally flustered. She didnโ€™t even notice the report card slip from her hands. โ€œSienna,โ€ she blurted out, completely caught off guard.

Siennaโ€™s eyes sparkled with a gentle warmth as she smiled. โ€œAmber, itโ€™s so late. Why arenโ€™t you asleep yet? Is something up?โ€
