Chapter 167
Reno hurriedly said, โMs. Winifred Hart, Miss Enna will be fine. She has plenty of people with her. Letโs go back now.โ
The rain was getting heavier, and catching a cold now would be bad news.
Once they got in the car, the two sisters kept sneezing nonstop. โMs. Winifred Hart, Ms. Amber Hart, let us take you to the hospital first,โ Reno said.
Winifred insisted, โNo! Iโm going with you to find her.โ The determination in her eyes left Lana at a loss for wordsโshe really didnโt know how to refuse her. But Winifred was already hurt, and what she needed most right now was medical attention.
โMs. Winifred Hart, Iโm sorry. You need to go to the hospital for your injuries. This is Miss Ennaโs arrangement, and we canโt go against it,โ Lana said.
But Winifredโs mind was racing with worries. Any uncertainty could send her spiraling, and she just couldnโt take that risk. The fact that there was no news from Sienna probably meant she was safe.
โLet me out of the car! Iโll go by myself,โ Winifred gritted her teeth. The pain in her body wasnโt enough to stop her.
Lana lowered her head. โIโm sorry, Ms. Winifred Hart, but you canโt take us on. Weโre almost at the hospital. I swear on my life, Miss Enna will be just fine.โ
The pouring rain shrouded the world in darkness, not a single ray of light to be found.
That was exactly how Winifred and Amber felt insideโtheir hearts just as lost and hopeless as the world outside.
They made it to the hospital safely. Lana reminded Reno to keep a close watch on Winifred, then headed back herself to look for Sienna.
Winifredโs legs were all bandaged up now. She glanced over at Amber, who was dozing off on the hospital bed, and, unable to hold back her frustration, gave the bed a hard kick.
โHey! What the heck are you doing?โ Amber yelped, totally freaked out.
Seeing Amber act like she didnโt care at all, Winifred just got even angrier.
โSeriously, do you even care! Do you know how dangerous things are for her right now? We havenโt heard a single thing, and youโre just lying here sleeping like itโs no big deal,โ Winifred snapped.
Amber instantly felt wronged, tears springing to her eyes.
Big teardrops rolled down her cheeks, her feverish little face flushed redโshe looked both adorable and completely innocent.
โHow can you say I donโt care about her? Iโve called her fifty times and sent thirty messages, and she hasnโt answered once. How can you accuse me of just lying here sleeping! Sheโs my sister! I just want her to be okay,โ Amber wailed.
Her sobs grew even louder, practically deafening as they echoed through the empty hospital room.
Winifred quickly covered her ears, realizing sheโd totally misjudged this little troublemaker.
โShut up! Whatโs with all the crying? Do you think cryingโs gonna fix anything?โ Winifred snapped.
Amber stared at her blankly for a second, then started crying even louder. โI can cry whenever I feel like it! Iโm just so worried about my sisterโwhatโs it got to do with you? Sheโs not your sister anyway.โ
โHey!โ Winifred clenched her fists, feeling like there was a huge rock weighing down on her chest. She wanted to shout back at this little brat so badly.
Sheโs not my sister, sheโs alsoโฆ Winifred thought.
Maybe Amberโs crying was contagious, so Winifred suddenly felt like crying as well. She grabbed the remote and turned on the TV, trying to distract herself from the anxiety.
A piece of news caught her attention: โBreaking news: Thereโs just been a car accident on Mount Nonton. The female driver of a Maybach was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body has now been transported to the hospital.โ
As soon as Winifred saw the news, she leapt out of bed and dashed out of the ward. Amber, not knowing what was going on, hurried after her. Their sudden escape startled the bodyguards and Reno. โAfter them!โ Reno barked, and they rushed to catch up.
Winifredโs heart pounded wildly in her chestโeverything else faded away, leaving only the sound of her own breath and the frantic beating of her heart.
โNo, no way. Sheโs way too strong for something like this.โ
โHow could she get into a car accident? No way, Sienna! This canโt be happening!โ
You canโt be her, you just canโt, Winifred kept telling herself.
Winifred grabbed a doctor and yelled, โWhere is she? The one who was just brought inโthe car accident victim! Where is she? Tell me!โ
