Chapter 170
After sending both Amber and Winifred in, only then did Sienna return to her own room, refusing Amberโs request to sleep with her that night.
Lana and Reno had been waiting for quite some time. Sienna finally took off her coat, revealing the gruesome, terrifying wound on her back.
โMiss Enna, we failed our job," Lana and Reno said, their voices trembling.
Lana and Renoโs eyes turned red as they looked at the huge, ugly wound on her pale back. How much pain must she be in? they both thought, hearts aching for her.
Sienna sat down, her face unreadable, and Reno lit a cigarette for her. Her eyes were so darkened and intense, her presence was suffocating, pressing down on both of them.
The oppressive silence seemed to flicker with the cigaretteโs glow in her hand.
Lana and Reno stood frozen, not daring to even breathe, just waiting for her to speak.
โLana, some things just have to be handled in person, but I canโt get away right now. I need you to head to Pyreson. If anyone steps out of line, you know what to do โ donโt bother keeping them around,โ Sienna said coldly.
โUnderstood, Miss Enna,โ Lana replied respectfully.
Reno hesitated, not sure how to bring it up, but Lana spoke first. โMiss Enna, we just got word from Meridia โ they said unless you keep the Noir family name forever, Thorn Noir canโt be killed.โ
Reno couldnโt help but grumble, โSeriously, theyโve got no shame. They can't bear to lose you, Miss Enna, so theyโre dragging in some nobody like an ant. Itโs not like you can split yourself in twoโฆ.โ
Lana cut her off before she could finish.
Reno immediately dropped to her knees. โMiss Enna, I spoke out of turn.โ
โPathetic clowns,โ Sienna sneered. โWhether Thorn Noir stays or not is up to my adoptive parents โ who are they to try and threaten me? If thatโs how they want to play, then thereโs no need to keep those people alive.โ
โUnderstood, Miss Enna. Some idiot who doesnโt know their place has reached out to the Winslow family โ looks like theyโre trying to put pressure on you through them,โ Lana reported.
โThe Winslow family, huh! Got it. Tell Adrian Winslow to come see me tomorrow,โ Sienna said coolly.
โUnderstood,โ Lana nodded.
โApply the medicine,โ Sienna ordered, her voice cold and authoritative.
โAlright, Miss Enna. It might hurt a little, so please bear with it,โ Lana replied gently.
Sienna didnโt even bat an eye, her face completely calm. โDraw up the contract โ give the Bayer family a 70% cut. Reno, bring me my uncle's medical records tomorrow. And send a copy of Winifredโs medical files to Zane. Let him get familiar with the case. Heโll come help me out next.โ
โUnderstood,โ Lana nodded.
Winifred just couldnโt fall asleep โ she wasnโt sure if it was excitement or something else. She decided to step out for a walk, only to spot Amber
making around, clutching her pillow tightly as she slipped out of her room.
Before Amber was about to knock on Siennaโs door, Winifred caught her by the wrists, stopping her in her tracks.
Amber jumped, her eyes going wide. Did she just show up out of nowhere? How does she walk without making a sound? Amber wondered, her.
โWhat are you doing?โ Winifred demanded.
โWhat are you doing?โ Amber said back, just as startled.
They both blurted out in unison, staring at each other, neither backing down.
โWhy do you care what Iโm doing, Winifred? Youโd better know your place. This is my house โ my house! Do you understand?โ Amber puffed her chest proudly, acting all superior.
Winifred crossed her arms, a flash of disdain in her eyes as she glanced around. โI donโt see your name carved on any of these walls,โ she said coolly.
โHey!โ Amber stomped her foot in frustration. Sheโs even worse than Vivian, she thought.
โWhatever. Iโm done talking to you, Iโm going to sleep with my sister now,โ Amber huffed.
Winifred scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. โSo youโre just a little coward, huh! Get scared over the tiniest thing and canโt even sleep? Maybe you should just change your name to Coward Hart.โ
โWhat did you just say?โ Amberโs eyes blazed with anger. โThis girl has no manners at all. Does she even know who the boss is around here? I have every right to throw her out of here!โ she fumed.
โWhat? Too dumb and too chicken to even let me talk about it?โ Winifred answered, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
