Chapter 169

On the hospital bed, Amber was acting all cute, asking Sienna to feed her some congee. "Sienna, I want more. Just one more bite."

Sienna gave her an indulgent smile. "Okay."

Winifred, sitting in a chair nearby, was fuming. She crossed her arms, her eyes practically shooting daggers at Amber. If looks could really kill, Amber would be riddled with wounds by now.

But Amber just kept throwing her the occasional taunting glance, adding fuel to the fire and making Winifred even more furious.

"Sienna, why isn’t she eating? Is she just not hungry!" Amber asked sweetly, but there was a hint of mischief in her tone. Sienna turned to look at the untouched food on the table. "Winifred, is it not to your taste? Or are you just not hungry!"

Winifred tried to speak but couldn’t bring herself to tell Sienna to stop feeding Amber. Instead, she just huffed and said, "I’m not hungry."

Amber’s eyes sparkled with mischief. "Oh, so she’s not hungry. I thought maybe her hand was hurt, but now that I look closer, it’s her foot. That shouldn’t stop her from eating, right?"

Winifred clenched her fists. "Amber, shut up!"

"Sienna, look how mean she is! Can't you just not let her come home?" Amber pouted.

Amber thought to herself: If she comes home with us, she’ll definitely fight with me for Sienna. It was hard enough getting rid of Vivian… And now there’s Winifred.

"Why does everyone want to steal my sister from me? They’re all just the worst!"

Once she snagged the top spot in the whole school, Amber was determined to make these people feel so small, they wouldn’t even have the guts to show their faces around Sienna. No matter where they turned up, her shine would just make their insecurities stand out even more.

Compete with me? In their dreams, Amber scoffed to herself.

"Amber, don’t talk like that. She’s your sister too. We’re family," Sienna said firmly.

Winifred and Amber both said in unison, "She’s not my sister!"

Sienna let out a helpless sigh and glanced at Lana. Lana immediately went to get a doctor, who gave both of them a thorough check–up. "Miss Enna, your sisters just have a few minor injuries. They can go home and rest," the doctor said.

No matter how much Amber hated it, there was nothing she could do–Winifred was already in the car, and to make things worse, she was sitting right next to Sienna.

"Sienna, I’m sleepy," Amber said, her voice soft and sweet.

Sienna reached out and gently held her close. "Okay, go ahead and take a nap. We’ll be home soon."

Winifred snorted, turning her face toward the window, thinking to herself, "What a drama queen."

"Winifred, this is your room. I had it completely redone for you. Take a look and see if you like it–if not, I can have it modified," Sienna said. Winifred glanced around, a bit stunned. How did she know I liked black? she wondered. The black–and–white palette looked so refined without being over the top–exactly the kind of room she’d always pictured for herself.

There was even a cozy little nook off to the side, with a sign that read "Urzy."

Winifred instantly felt a lump in her throat.

She struggled to admit it, she was moved. Her nose prickled, and she almost wanted to cry, but she managed to hold it in.

She refused to let herself look all soft and vulnerable, like Amber always did.

"It looks great, just leave it like this," Winifred said, sitting down on the bed and lowering her head, fighting back the bitterness in her heart.

Sienna sat down beside her, her usually frosty gaze now brimming with guilt and heartache. She knew just how much Winifred had suffered.

It was all because she’d gone looking for Sienna that she ended up being taken by Lydia.

"Winifred, I know what you’re worried about. I’m not leaving again. We’ll always be together from now on, okay?" Sienna said gently.

Winifred’s hands tightened around the blanket, her whole body freezing for a second.

She got up and headed straight for the bathroom. "Who knows if you really mean it!"

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to believe Sienna–it was that she was too afraid to let herself believe.

She was scared Sienna would just fade away like a dream the moment she tried to hold on.

Sienna knew she couldn’t rush this–she’d have to take things slow, and there was plenty of time ahead.
