Chapter 193
All the way back, Sienna kept trying to find a chance to clear things up with Wayne, but he kept cutting her off. Sienna never got the chance. They were both adults. She was twenty-eight, not eighteen. Some things didnโt need to be spelled out. They both knew what was going on. In the end, it was just about whether they were willing to accept it or not.
โSienna, see you later,โ Wayne smiled at her, his handsome, flawless face exuding an effortless grace. Standing by the car with the poise of a gentleman, he reminded Sienna of someone from her past.
Without betraying any emotion, Sienna simply murmured a quiet โOkayโ in response, then turned and walked away.
As soon as Sienna got home, she saw Amber constantly interrupting Winifred, excitedly showing off all the fun things that had happened that day. Winifred sat on the couch, expressionless, flipping through a magazine.
Amber kept going on and on, but when Winifred saw Sienna, she immediately walked over.
โSienna, youโre back,โ Winifred said as soon as she saw her.
โYeah, Winifred, howโs school? Are you getting used to it?โ Sienna asked.
If even the buildings she donated couldnโt help Winifred settle in, Sienna would just transfer her to a different school.
โItโs alright, I guess. Oh, by the way, I wanted to tell you that I signed up for the Vallaris Art Competition next month. Itโs a live event, and theyโll announce the results on the spot. Thereโs even a trophy, and you can bring a parentโฆ Do you think youโll have time to come?โ
Winifred suddenly felt awkward after saying that. She quickly ducked her head, looking away from Sienna.
Sienna was genuinely surprised. Winifredโs inviting her meant the resentment in her heart had faded a lot. She gently placed her hand on Winifredโs head, her eyes soft as she said, โOf course I can. It would be my honor, Winifred. I believe youโll be the best out there.โ
Winifredโs cheeks were burning hot. She was never one for these kinds of moments and felt super awkward, but deep down, she secretly kind of liked it.
Amber let out a dismissive snort, turned away with her arms crossed. Big deal. When I get first place in the whole grade, Winifredโs little art contest wonโt even matter to me.
Wayne, not caring about his injuries, was downing drink after drink. Before long the place was littered with empty bottles. His parents were worried sick and called Nora over.
โWhatโs wrong with my brother?โ Nora asked.
โWe donโt know. As soon as he got back, he locked himself in his room and just kept drinking,โ Noraโs mother said, her eyes full of worry. She couldnโt remember the last time her son had been like this.
Could it be that my casual mention of marriage last time put too much pressure on him? I really just said it in passing, she thought.
He wasnโt getting any younger. He was already thirty-three, while his sisterโs kid was five, and he still hadnโt settled down.
Being his mother wasnโt easy. What if he ended up dying alone and then blamed them for it even in the afterlife? she worriedly thought to herself.
Nora asked her assistant about Wayneโs schedule and learned that heโd attended the Quinn familyโs yacht party, with Jason also present. She immediately called Jason to find out what had happened.
When they hung up, her eyes went wide in disbelief. โMy brother actually confessed?โ she thought, stunned. Wait, did he get turned down? So what was the outcome?
Jason and the others had no idea either.
Nora just couldnโt resist her inner gossip and went straight to video call Sienna.
As soon as the call connected, she blurted out, โSis-in-law! Wait, no, Sienna, itโs me.โ
โNora?โ Sienna replied.
Nora swallowed hard and looked at Sienna anxiously. On the other end of the call, her parents were holding their breath, waiting for her response.
โI need to ask you something. Disclaimer right now: Iโm not your bestie. Iโm in full-on dark mode. So if youโre mad at her, you canโt takeโฆ
