Chapter 242
Everyone was taken aback by what Iris said.
Jacob turned his head, his eyes sharp as blades, landing right on her.
Iris couldnโt help but shiver, a chill running down her spine. That look is so commanding, she thought. I canโt believe Iโm actually feeling the pressure of someone in power from a madmanโs eyes. How ridiculous.
โItโs you. Youโre crazy. Iโve seen you before,โ Iris shouted, raising her voice. โSecurity, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and restrain this person!โ
Jacob let out a cold laugh, stood up, and looked down at her from above.
โIris, right? That little girl from the Gideon family. You just barge in and call me crazy with nothing to back it up. Looks like you think you know the Bayer family pretty well,โ he sneered.
Irisโs face froze, and she quickly averted her eyes, feeling a guilty pang in her chest.
โI donโt know what youโre talking about, but youโre obviously crazy. Thereโs no denying it,โ she insisted.
Jacob dropped the jacket draped over his arm. โWhat proof do you have?โ he asked.
โSurely I know whether Iโm crazy or not myself?โ Iris thought. The mental hospital is just my way of running away from things.
โOf course, I have proof. Iโll contact the doctors at the mental hospital right now and have them take you away,โ Iris said.
Jacob didnโt show a hint of panic. โAlright then, Iโll just sit here and see if you can really have me taken away. But let me remind you, Iris. Whether youโre a person or a doctor, acting this viciously will get you nowhere.โ
Iris didnโt take it seriously. Like this old geezer has any right to lecture me, she scoffed to herself.
โMy business is none of your concern. Since you know who I am, you should know Iโm a professional. That injury on your arm? You need surgery right now. Someone, get the operation ready,โ Iris ordered.
Jacob let out a scoff and shook his head helplessly. These kids nowadays are just getting more and more out of hand, he thought.
The hospital director, Isaac Thornton, hurried over to Jacob as soon as he saw him.
โMr. Bayer, itโs been a while. Are you injured? Where did you get hurt?โ he asked.
Jacob replied, โItโs just a minor injury, but your doctor here insists I need surgery.โ
Jacob turned to Iris, who hadnโt expected the hospital director to show up, but she kept her cool and spoke steadily, โMr. Thornton, Iโm a doctor, and itโs my duty to be responsible for every patient.
โThe origin of his wound is unclear, so I really think we need to check it again. Iโm only thinking of the patientโs well-being. I hope you can understand where Iโm coming from, Director.โ
Isaac had spent a fortune to bring Iris over from abroad, thinking sheโd help boost the hospitalโs reputation. He never expected sheโd run into trouble this quickly.
โDr. Grant, I get where youโre coming from, but Mr. Bayer doesnโt need any more tests. You can head back for now,โ Isaac said.
Irisโs face was livid with rage as she clenched her fists. โMr. Thornton, do you even realize heโs a mental patient? Letting someone like that just strut around the hospitalโif anything happens, can you really take responsibility?โ she shouted.
Isaac snapped. โDr. Grant, I have no idea where you got those rumors from, but Mr. Bayer is completely sane.โ
Iris snapped. โMr. Thornton, youโre really losing it. And you have the nerve to question me? If you donโt believe me, just ask him!
โHeโs been locked up in a mental hospital for years. If heโs not a mental patient, then what the hell has he been doing there all this time!"
Jacob let out a wry laugh. โI really did spend time in a mental hospital.โ
He never expected that all these years would lead to so many farcical misunderstandings.
All he wanted was a quiet place to lay low.
