Chapter 242

Everyone was taken aback by what Iris said.

Jacob turned his head, his eyes sharp as blades, landing right on her.

Iris couldnโ€™t help but shiver, a chill running down her spine. That look is so commanding, she thought. I canโ€™t believe Iโ€™m actually feeling the pressure of someone in power from a madmanโ€™s eyes. How ridiculous.

โ€œItโ€™s you. Youโ€™re crazy. Iโ€™ve seen you before,โ€ Iris shouted, raising her voice. โ€œSecurity, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and restrain this person!โ€

Jacob let out a cold laugh, stood up, and looked down at her from above.

โ€œIris, right? That little girl from the Gideon family. You just barge in and call me crazy with nothing to back it up. Looks like you think you know the Bayer family pretty well,โ€ he sneered.

Irisโ€™s face froze, and she quickly averted her eyes, feeling a guilty pang in her chest.

โ€œI donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about, but youโ€™re obviously crazy. Thereโ€™s no denying it,โ€ she insisted.

Jacob dropped the jacket draped over his arm. โ€œWhat proof do you have?โ€ he asked.

โ€œSurely I know whether Iโ€™m crazy or not myself?โ€ Iris thought. The mental hospital is just my way of running away from things.

โ€œOf course, I have proof. Iโ€™ll contact the doctors at the mental hospital right now and have them take you away,โ€ Iris said.

Jacob didnโ€™t show a hint of panic. โ€œAlright then, Iโ€™ll just sit here and see if you can really have me taken away. But let me remind you, Iris. Whether youโ€™re a person or a doctor, acting this viciously will get you nowhere.โ€

Iris didnโ€™t take it seriously. Like this old geezer has any right to lecture me, she scoffed to herself.

โ€œMy business is none of your concern. Since you know who I am, you should know Iโ€™m a professional. That injury on your arm? You need surgery right now. Someone, get the operation ready,โ€ Iris ordered.

Jacob let out a scoff and shook his head helplessly. These kids nowadays are just getting more and more out of hand, he thought.

The hospital director, Isaac Thornton, hurried over to Jacob as soon as he saw him.

โ€œMr. Bayer, itโ€™s been a while. Are you injured? Where did you get hurt?โ€ he asked.

Jacob replied, โ€œItโ€™s just a minor injury, but your doctor here insists I need surgery.โ€

Jacob turned to Iris, who hadnโ€™t expected the hospital director to show up, but she kept her cool and spoke steadily, โ€œMr. Thornton, Iโ€™m a doctor, and itโ€™s my duty to be responsible for every patient.

โ€œThe origin of his wound is unclear, so I really think we need to check it again. Iโ€™m only thinking of the patientโ€™s well-being. I hope you can understand where Iโ€™m coming from, Director.โ€

Isaac had spent a fortune to bring Iris over from abroad, thinking sheโ€™d help boost the hospitalโ€™s reputation. He never expected sheโ€™d run into trouble this quickly.

โ€œDr. Grant, I get where youโ€™re coming from, but Mr. Bayer doesnโ€™t need any more tests. You can head back for now,โ€ Isaac said.

Irisโ€™s face was livid with rage as she clenched her fists. โ€œMr. Thornton, do you even realize heโ€™s a mental patient? Letting someone like that just strut around the hospitalโ€”if anything happens, can you really take responsibility?โ€ she shouted.

Isaac snapped. โ€œDr. Grant, I have no idea where you got those rumors from, but Mr. Bayer is completely sane.โ€

Iris snapped. โ€œMr. Thornton, youโ€™re really losing it. And you have the nerve to question me? If you donโ€™t believe me, just ask him!

โ€œHeโ€™s been locked up in a mental hospital for years. If heโ€™s not a mental patient, then what the hell has he been doing there all this time!"

Jacob let out a wry laugh. โ€œI really did spend time in a mental hospital.โ€

He never expected that all these years would lead to so many farcical misunderstandings.

All he wanted was a quiet place to lay low.
