Nathan grinned and said, “I’m just here to keep a friend company–well, actually, she’s more like my boss. She didn’t want to be here all alone, so she dragged me along for some company.”
Vivian raised an eyebrow. “How much is she paying?”
Nathan looked a little surprised but then smirked, holding up three fingers. “Thirty thousand dollars.”
Vivian was momentarily speechless. She had to admit she was a little envious.
“Well, I’ll get going then,” Vivian said with a forced laugh.
“Nathan, over here! The doctor said I’m perfectly fine. Thanks for sticking with me today,” an elderly voice called out.
Vivian turned around and saw an old lady with a head full of white hair. Nathan hurried over to support her. “Careful. I knew you were doing great–there’s nothing wrong with you at all.”
“Oh, Nathan, you sweet talker,” the old woman replied with a smile.
Vivian was stunned. She thought, ‘So his so-called boss is actually an old lady? Guess I really did judge a book by its cover this time. Turns out he’s got way more depth than I thought.’
Rowena saw the news and learned that Winifred’s life was uncertain. She quickly searched for more details and found out it was connected to Sylvie.
Rowena thought, ‘Sylvie is downright vicious! Even death would have been too easy for her.’
