Chapter 278
Fay didnโt dare look up, his head bowed in shame. โSonia!โ
Sienna looked at Fay, a flicker of confusion in her eyes. She reached down and tilted his chin up, forcing him to meet her gaze. โFay, is what she said true?โ
Fay had a severe emotional deficit, which kept his state of mind in a constant, cold calm. He rarely had any emotional fluctuations.
But in that moment, his heart hammered against his ribs. He clenched his fists, his eyes darting away in guilt.
โYes, Boss. The photos are real. But my loyalty to you is absolute,โ Fay said.
Lana, standing by the door, heard his confession. She had warned him not to cross that line, that the consequences would be more than he could bear. He hadnโt listened.
โFay, perhaps you are no longer suited to be by my side,โ Sienna said, her tone level, laced with a hint of regret.
Fay panicked. He grabbed Siennaโs leg, completely losing his composure. โBoss! Please, please donโt send me away. Iโll get rid of the pictures. Iโฆ I just admire you so much. Youโre my savior. Iโm sorry, so sorry.โ
Sienna stepped back: This boy had been with her for ten years. She had molded him into an unfeeling machine who worked only for her. Now, to see him kneeling before her, his eyes red with unshed tears, was disappointing.
โFay, Iโm giving you some time to cool off. In one month, youโll leave for Frandell. Youโll manage our operations there,โ Sienna said.
โBoss!โ Fay watched her back as she turned away. Without a second thought, he pulled his gun and cocked it.
He pressed the barrel to his own head. In a flash, Sienna spun around, her leg lashing out to kick the gun from his hand. Her eyes glinted with a fierce light as she drove her foot into his chest.
โFay, I didnโt invest all this time and energy in you just for you to kill yourself. If I had known you were this fragile, I would have never brought you back in the first place,โ Sienna said, her voice cold with disappointment.
Fay knelt on the floor, his shoulders trembling uncontrollably. โBoss! Please donโt send me away. You gave me this life. I only want to repay you.โ
His plea only fueled Siennaโs anger. โRepay me? Is disobeying my orders how you repay me? Fay, did you really think I didnโt know? Sonia never would have gotten access to that information if you hadnโt intentionally leaked it. Do I really need to spell it out for you?โ
Fayโs eyes widened, and he collapsed onto the floor in disbelief. She knew. She knew everything.
He opened his mouth, but no words came out. His pale face was a mask of agony as he mumbled, โI just wanted to see you?โ
He had been sent on a mission for five years. He finished it in three, thinking he would finally get to see her, only to find out she had recovered her memories and returned to her home country. There, she had a family.
She had friends. His special place in her life was gone. She had saved him, trained him herself. Why was she casting him aside now?
โFay, is this what I taught you? To play games with me? If youโve developed other attachments, you can deal with them yourself. I donโt want to get my hands dirty,โ Sienna said coldly.
Fay couldnโt bring himself to attempt suicide again. The disappointment he had seen in her eyes was more terrifying than anything else. He couldnโt bear to see that look again.
โI understand, Boss. Iโll go to Frandell.โ
After Fay left, Lana Yost walked in. She and Reno Lynch hadnโt been with Sienna Hart as long as Fay Santos had, but theyโd both witnessed his transformation from a timid, insecure boy into the fearsome second-in-command of the underworld. He was loyal, but he never should have let himself develop any other feelings.
That was his greatest weakness. If he had remained the sharp blade in the Bossโs hand, she would have had far fewer problems.
โBoss, are you really going to have him killed?โ Lana asked in a low voice, uncertainty flickering in her eyes.
