Chapter 45

Amber didnโ€™t think sheโ€™d done anything wrong. She glanced at Jocelyn and saw a delighted smile.

Lost in the thrill of gaming, Amberโ€™s homework was now the last thing on her mind. The approving look in Jocelynโ€™s eyes made her heart soar.

Getting scolded by teachers had become routine for Amber. She was numb to it by now and didnโ€™t think it was a big deal.

As they stepped out of the gaming cafe, a girl walked straight into Jocelyn, who gasped in pain.

The girl quickly apologized. โ€œSorry, I didnโ€™t mean to bump into you. Are you okay?โ€

Jocelyn frowned slightly and said, โ€œIt stings a littleโ€ฆโ€

Seeing Jocelyn get bumped, Amber violently shoved the girl away. The force sent the girl crashing to the ground, scraping her palms and landing hard on her tailbone, pain shooting through her.

Tears immediately welled up in her eyes as she sat there, overwhelmed.

The girl thought to herself, I already apologized. Besides, it was just a little bump.

Amber glared and snapped, โ€œAre you blind or something? Canโ€™t you see her walking here? You bumped into her on purpose. Whatโ€™s your sick game? How dare you!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sorry,โ€ the girl sobbed softly, wiped away her tears, and said. It was indeed her fault; she should apologize.

Amber glared at the girl and snapped, โ€œDonโ€™t think saying sorry means weโ€™ll forgive you. No one gets to mess with us!โ€

Jocelyn gently tugged at Amberโ€™s sleeve and, in a soft voice, first reassured the little girl. โ€œItโ€™s alright. Iโ€™m fine. You can go.โ€ Then she turned to Amber and added, โ€œAmber, really, it doesnโ€™t hurt. Iโ€™m okay!โ€

โ€œThank you so much,โ€ the girl kept saying profusely, her voice trembling with gratitude. With that, she hurried off without a backward glance.

Jocelyn said dotingly to Amber, โ€œAmber, Iโ€™m so proud you stood up for me. I donโ€™t feel wronged at all now. Thank you, you did exactly the right thing.โ€

Hearing Jocelynโ€™s words, Amber broke into a beaming smile. โ€œJocelyn, as long as youโ€™re happy, thatโ€™s all that matters to me. I wonโ€™t let anyone ever hurt you!โ€

Seeing that smile, Jocelyn felt a pang of jealousy, but she still spoke gently. โ€œAmber, how many times have I told you? You canโ€™t smile in front of others. People will take advantage of you.

โ€œYou need to act fierce to protect yourself. I canโ€™t always be there for you, so promise me, no more smiling in front of others, okay?โ€

Amber nodded obediently. โ€œOkay, Jocelyn.โ€

Jocelyn seized the moment and asked softly. โ€œAmber, weโ€™re going home, but what if someone tries to bully me again?โ€

Amber looked at Jocelyn with unwavering determination and said, โ€œNo one will ever bully you. If anyone dares, I'll make them pay.

โ€œIโ€™ll do anything you ask. Just promise youโ€™ll always stay with me. Your happiness means everything to me.โ€

Jocelyn felt a surge of dark satisfaction, utterly intoxicated by her sense of absolute control, as if she had meticulously crafted a chess piece that existed solely for her use.

โ€œAmber, youโ€™re such a good girl. But what if itโ€™s Vivian? Sheโ€™s your sister, after all. Youโ€™d still stand up for me instead of her, right?โ€ Jocelyn said tentatively.

Amber felt nothing for Vivian. If anything, it was pure hatred. Amber loathed Vivian because Vivian always bullied Jocelyn and wouldnโ€™t even let Amber be with Jocelyn.

Sheโ€™s pure evil, rotten to the core. Thereโ€™s nothing she wouldnโ€™t do, a complete psycho, Amber thought.

Amber declared fiercely. โ€œVivian is no sister of mine. Youโ€™re my only sister, Jocelyn. I hate her.โ€

As she spoke, a flash of hatred appeared in Amberโ€™s eyes. She just couldnโ€™t understand why Vivian always went after Jocelyn. Jocelyn was so good to Vivian, but Vivian would always bite the hand that fed her.

Amber couldnโ€™t stand Vivian. She couldnโ€™t stand that they shared the same blood. Amber hoped to be related to Jocelyn instead.

โ€œOnly Jocelyn truly cares about me and wants whatโ€™s best for me," Amber thought with unwavering conviction. "Iโ€™ll always be loyal to Jocelyn, no matter what.โ€

Jocelynโ€™s smirk widened as she ruffled Amberโ€™s hair. Sheโ€™s my best weapon, she mused. Sienna, just you wait. Iโ€™m coming for you!
