Chapter 74
Lana said sternly, โIโve told you, if you donโt want the job, youโre free to leave.โ
Chris yelled angrily, โI want to see Miss Enna. I want to see her right now. Lana, youโre just an assistant. What gives you the right to treat me this way?โ
Lana looked at Chris with undisguised disdain and scoffed, โWant to see Miss Enna? Chris, I told youโyouโre not qualified.โ
Chris felt utterly humiliated. Clenching his jaw, he spat out each word, โWho the hell are you to decide if Iโm qualified or not, Lana? Youโre just a damn assistant. Hart Corporation is nothing but a pathetic little company. Do you really think youโre something special? And Sienna? Not only did she steal her fatherโs position, but she alsoโฆ Ahโโ
Before Chris could finish his sentence, Lana delivered a crushing kick to his chest, sending him flying across the room.
He landed hard, writhing in agony, feeling like every bone in his body was about to break. โThat damn woman,โ Chris thought through gritted teeth. โWhy is she so strong?โ
Lana advanced step by step, boosted by one-inch heels, completely overpowering Chris, even though he was much taller than her.
Lana narrowed her eyes at Chris and said coldly, โChris, have I been too lenient with you lately?โ
For the first time, Chris felt like prey under a predatorโs gaze, frozen in place, unable to move, pinned by Lanaโs disdainful stare and overwhelming aura.
Chris gulped, utterly speechless under her intimidating gaze.
โPleasure working with you, Mr. Quinn,โ said Sienna.
โItโs been a pleasure working with you, Miss Enna. Thank you for this opportunity,โ Miles smiled.
Sienna responded coolly, โThe pleasure is mine, Mr. Quinn.โ
Sienna and Miles were hardly strangers. As fellow movers and shakers in the business world, they had crossed paths several times over a decade ago.
The Quinn family was no stranger to power struggles, plagued by illegitimate heirs and internal chaos. But after Miles rose to power, he brought order to the dynasty. No pushover could ever claim such a position.
As soon as Miles got into the car, his assistant couldnโt wait to ask, โMr. Quinn, what does Miss Enna look like? Is she getting on in years?โ
Miles took off his glasses and began polishing them methodically. โWhat do you mean by that?โ
The assistant said, โMr. Quinn, ever since Hart Corporation changed hands, no oneโs even seen what the new CEO looks like. She doesnโt go by Miss Hart. People call her Miss Enna instead. All weโve heard are rumors. She spent ten years overseas, so she must be married with kids by now. Plus, as the eldest daughter, sheโs probably-โ
It was rare for the assistant to see Miles smile, let alone with such a heartfelt smile as he did today.
Miles said, โDonโt buy into those rumors. Sheโs still every bit as stunning as she ever was. She was even more dazzling, more flawless, more formidable, and more breathtaking than ever.โ
Just like eleven years ago, when Miles first met Sienna. Back then, he was still the rigid, book-obsessed PhD student his family knew.
His father had taken Miles to a business summit, where he first encountered Sienna.
Dubbed as the most prominent socialite in Vallarisโs elite circles, Sienna lived up to her name, bold, dazzling, yet aloof.
At just seventeen, Sienna had already taken the reins of Hart Corporation as its youngest-ever CEO.
That was the first time Miles couldnโt fathom how a seventeen-year-old girl, still in school, full of youthful innocence, could possibly be the CEO of Hart Corporation.
Miles, lost in his academic pursuits, couldnโt comprehend how someone could effortlessly juggle so many responsibilities, while the scholarly honors he took such pride in were mere childโs play to Sienna.
Miles had read all of Siennaโs papers and published books. Each one struck a deep chord in him, leaving waves of emotion that lingered long after he finished reading.
Fate could be cruel to the truly gifted. Ten years ago, a tragic accident claimed Siennaโs life, or so everyone thought. Little did anyone expect she would miraculously return.
The assistant finally understood what Miles meant. With a teasing smile, he said, โSo thatโs why you were up so early this morning, all your preparations were for Miss Enna.โ
An awkward look flashed across Milesโs face. โJust focus on driving.โ
After work, Sienna headed home early to find Linda and Jocelyn, for once, diligently doing their assigned chores. Elisa reported to Sienna, one by one, what she had assigned them that day.
Amber trudged in with her backpack, a wayward strand of short hair drooping limply. She was clearly not in the best of spirits.
Lindaโs eyes lit up at the sight of Amber as if sheโd found her lifeline. Day after day at home, sheโd been deliberately slighted by Elbert and staff. They treated her like anything but the mistress of the house.
โAmber, youโre finally home. Iโve missed you terribly,โ Linda gushed with exaggerated warmth.
