Chapter 182
One man’s words hit the nail on the head, leaving Leia speechless. She couldn't help but start to reflect. Was I really treating my brothers as tools? No, I wasn’t. She had always been proud of her brothers and was really proud to be their sister. And they betrayed her first.
They had promised not to treat Noelle well, but all broke their promises. Since they no longer treated her as a sister, Leia decided she shouldn’t treat them as brothers either.
But now, Bennett’s words got to her. She didn’t know how to think it was possible for her brothers to love her and Noelle at the same time. After all, Noelle was their sister by blood, and she knew so many things. It was fair that they preferred Noelle.
Many families didn’t even treat their biological daughters equally, let alone Leia, who was just adopted. She was sure she couldn’t coexist with Noelle. Just as Leia was struggling internally, Bennett spoke again…
He walked closer to Leia and spoke to her with a gentle expression, “Leia, I understand how you feel right now. Noelle is the Anderson family’s biological daughter, while you’re not related to us by blood. So, when you see us treating Noelle well, you feel worried and threatened. I completely understand that.”
“Bennett…” Bennett’s words touched Leia’s heart. Her eyes turned red and she felt extremely aggrieved.
“But can you also think about me?” Bennett continued, “If I really treat the two of you differently, I’m afraid my parents and my brothers will hate me. Do you want me to become the target of public criticism?”
“No, I didn’t wish for that…” Leia shook her head and said.
“I know, right?” Bennett smiled.
He gently rubbed the top of Leia’s head and said gently. “I knew it. Leia, you are a kind girl. I promise you that you will always be my most beloved sister. You will have whatever Noelle has, and what she has not.”
Hearing Bennett say this, Leia felt a little better. It seemed that before, Bennett’s attitude toward Noelle was more or less an act. However, his sincerity toward her was real.
“Bennett, I understand. I am sorry too. I shouldn’t have blamed you,” Leia apologized.
However, Bennett smiled and said, “It’s fine. When you saw me being good to Noelle downstairs just now, you must have felt uncomfortable. I’m not stupid: I know that. But you understand me, and for that, I should thank you.”
It was rare for Leia to be praised, so her heart started to flutter. She smiled shyly and said, “It’s alright, Bennett. I’m just putting myself in your…”
“Not everyone could do that,” Bennett patted Leia’s shoulder and said with a smile, “Alright, you must be tired today. You’re upset and aggrieved. Have a good rest tonight. I’m on annual leave these few days, so I’ll stay with you.”
As he spoke, he thought of something and said to Leia, “Leia, I have something for you. Wait a moment.”
“Okay,” Leia stood there quietly.
She watched as Bennett returned to his room and came out again with an exquisite gift box in his hand. He handed it to her and said with a smile, “Leia, this is a gift for you.”
Leia took it and was a little happy. “Bennett, you even bought me a gift?”
“Of course,” Bennett smiled and scratched the bridge of Leia’s nose. “I haven’t seen my little princess for so long. Of course, I have to prepare some decent gifts.”
“Bennett…” At this moment, the gloominess in Leia’s heart was completely swept away.
Bennett even whispered to her. “Don’t tell Noelle. I only have a gift for you.”
These words made Leia jump with joy again. Only I have a gift. Noelle doesn’t! I knew Bennett was always on my side.
A smile returned to Leia’s face. She thanked Bennett and said, “Got it! Thank you, Bennett!”
“There’s no need to stand on ceremony between us. Alright, go back to your room and see what it is.”
“Okay, I’ll go now.” She smiled sweetly at Bennett and said, “Bennett, good night.”
“Good night,” Bennett nodded as he watched as Leia returned to her room.
After the door closed, the corners of Bennett’s lips curled up into an ambiguous smile, which was a little cold and disdainful.
After settling the matter with Leia, Bennett turned around. When he was about to return to his room, he saw Charlie slowly walking out from the corner of the wall. Apparently, Charlie had heard the conversation between Bennett and Leia.
Bennett’s expression did not change. He smiled and looked calm. Charlie stared at him silently for a few seconds before turning around and going downstairs.
As his brother, Bennett immediately understood Charlie wanted to talk with him outside.
So Bennett raised his eyebrows and followed Charlie downstairs.
In the pavilion outside the villa, Charlie and Bennett walked over one after another.
Bennett looked around. It was time to sleep, so there were no servants wandering outside. He turned his gaze back to Charlie and said with a smile, “Charlie, just say what you want to say.”
At this moment, Charlie also stopped.
He turned around and his gaze landed on Bennett. His gaze was cold as he asked indifferently, “Bennett, was it fun?”
Hearing that, Bennett raised his eyebrows again.
He still wore that gentle smile on his face. The night breeze brushed past, lifting Bennett’s collar and tousling his hair. But he didn’t move at all, standing there with an aura of an elegant young man.
After a while, Bennett opened his thin lips slightly and said leisurely, “I don’t quite understand what you mean.”
Seeing that Bennett was still playing dumb, Charlie said even more bluntly. “Was it fun to tease your sisters?”
