Chapter 183

Beumer’s smile faded slightly when he heard Charlie’s straightforward question.

He retorted, “What do you mean? Funny. How did I tease them? Are they unhappy now?”

Noefte hoped to forge a good relationship with everyone and he did her a favor. Leia felt unfairly insecure, and he comforted her by telling her he would always love her.

Bernett felt that he was really a good person. He made everyone happy.

Charlie looked at him quietly with a sullen expression.

To outsiders, Bennett was impeccable. He had a good personality, a good family background, and a good career. He seemed to be perfect.

However, Charlie knew very well that the reason why Bennett catered to everyone was not because he liked people, but because he liked to maintain this sense of balance and keep everything in order.

In a way, Charlie and Bennett were similar. However, there was an essential difference between them. Charlie followed the rules to avoid trouble.

Bennett followed the rules because he wanted to control and have fun.

For example, before Noelle returned, Leia was hospitalized, and Bennett said that when Noelle returned, he would find someone to get rid of her.

This was not because he cared about Leia. He was just taking advantage of the situation.

At that time, everyone wanted to comfort Leia and was against Noelle, so Bennett said those words just to satisfy everyone.

But now that everyone had accepted Noelle, he immediately changed his attitude and accepted Noelle too.

He was used to doing things that satisfied everyone, and it was easy for him.

Then, he would look down on this group of people that he could easily satisfy with a superior attitude.

Bennett was not a good person.

Charlie was silent for a while.

Then, he pointed out, “Bennett, you may have pleased both of our sisters, but you haven’t eased their relationship. In fact, your actions have only deepened the conflict between them.

"He hugged Noelle in front of Leia and then gave Leia a gift behind Noelle’s back. With Leia’s personality, she would definitely show off to Noelle, and the relationship between Leia and Noelle would only turn worse.”

Bennett listened to Charlie. Suddenly, he laughed.

He looked at his brother mockingly and said, “Charlie, what you said is really funny!

“Leia and Noelle are two separate individuals. What can I do to stop them from doing what they want? I just want to make my sister happy. I did what would make them happiest. Isn’t that enough?”

Bennett’s words seemed to make sense, but on careful thought, they were all fallacies.

Charlie frowned and retorted, “If you truly care about your sisters, you should stop them from making mistakes! You know that Leia is vain and sensitive, yet you still indulge her. She’ll only keep fighting with Noelle. When things don’t go her way, she’ll easily make the wrong choices.”

“What does that have to do with me!” Bennett sneered. “I’m just her brother. And besides, I’m not even related to her by blood. Do you expect me to control everything and watch her every move! I don’t have that much time.”

“Bennett, you—”

“Charlie, don’t lecture me,” Bennett interrupted, his tone sharp. “I heard from Leia that you watched her go to Lighting Media without stopping her, letting her get frozen out.”

He paused, his gaze steady on Charlie. “Although I know Leia tends to exaggerate, the fact is, she’s been frozen. To put it bluntly, you’re just as heartless. Don’t be the pot calling the kettle black.”

Charlie was speechless.

"Do you think you’re so much better?

Although he had tried to stop Leia before, he failed. Leia still secretly went to sign the contract behind his back. It was also a fact that he was now being frozen.

He seemed rational, but in reality, he was also a heartless person.

Charlie was irrefutable.

Charlie still opened his mouth, his voice calm but firm. “I admit that you could call me heartless, but it’s also true that I don’t want my family to fall apart. I’ve watched Leia grow up. I don’t want her to keep making mistakes, and eventually, not even have a chance to turn back."

Bennett laughed. “Then speak to Leia and see if she’s willing to listen?

Charlie was at a loss for words. If Leia was willing to listen to him, he would not have come to Bennett.

Bennett knew the answer from Charlie’s reaction.

He said sarcastically. “See? Honest words sting. Some people just hate hearing the truth. All it takes is a line of pandering, and suddenly, you’re their confidant.

“That’s just how people are, so why bother doing something exhausting and thankless? Leia is an adult now. She should take responsibility for her own actions. Don’t you agree?”

Charlie fell silent once again. As much as he hated to admit it, there were some points he actually agreed with.

Bennett had always been far more articulate than him. Trying to persuade or stop him with words was simply impossible.

Charlie also knew that he could not stop Bennett. He took a step back and asked again, “What about Noelle? Bennett, what do you think of our—”
