Chapter 208

"Hmm, it was probably just a tripped breaker. Everything should be fine now," Damon remarked, not paying much attention to what Leia had said, as his attention was all on her. He simply said, "It’s getting late. You should all go back and rest."

"Okay," Leia nodded with a sweet smile. Softly, she added, "Damon, Bennett, Noelle, good night."

Just then, a servant came upstairs with the medicine.

She was surprised to see all the Anderson siblings gathered at the staircase and quickly greeted them. "Oh, Mr. Bennett, Mr. Damon. Miss Leia Anderson, Miss Noelle Anderson, why are you all standing here! Is something wrong?"

"No," Leia replied with a smile. "The power went out just now, so we came to check."

The servant chuckled and said proudly, "I was in the kitchen making medicine for Mr. Vincent when the lights suddenly went out. I figured you all might be scared, so I rushed to wake up Paul. It will be fixed soon."

"Maria, I know we can always count on you," Leia praised and then asked, "Did that affect my dad’s medicine?"

Maria reassured her, "Don’t worry, Miss Leia. I was using a stovetop, so the power outage didn’t affect anything. You know me. I always do things properly. Don’t worry."

"That’s good," Leia breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I hope Dad’s headache gets better soon."

"It definitely will," Maria's gaze then shifted to Noelle. She beamed and flattered, "Ever since Mr. Vincent started taking the medicine Miss Noelle prepared, he hardly ever complains about headaches anymore. That ancient recipe of yours really is a treasure! Miss Noelle, you’re so amazing and talented at such a young age. You truly live up to the name of the Anderson family!"

Maria was known as the chatty one in the villa. If anyone engaged her in conversation, she could talk all day without repeating herself.

Damon was clearly losing patience. He frowned and said, "Aren’t you supposed to deliver the medicine? Get going."

"Oh dear, you’re right. I got so caught up chatting that I nearly forgot," Maria chuckled. "Well then, Mr. Bennett, Mr. Damon, Miss Leia, Miss Noelle. I’ll be off."

"Alright," Leia said with a smile. "Go ahead."

"Yes," Maria nodded.

After the servant left, Damon said in mild irritation, "She talks way too much. We should have the butler keep her in check."

However, Leia put on a gentle and understanding smile, saying, "Damon, she doesn’t mean any harm. Don’t be too hard on her."

Damon glanced at Leia, who looked bright and cheerful, as if she meant every word.

Damon couldn’t help but wonder, "Am I overthinking things? Has Leia really decided to let things go and get along with Noelle? If so, that would be for the best. But why am I still feeling uneasy? Something about Leia just seems... off."

As these doubts lingered in his mind, a sudden crash came from Vincent and Kimberly’s room.

The sound of shattering porcelain echoed through the hall, followed by Kimberly’s panicked voice. "Vincent, Vincent, are you okay? Ah! Blood! Blood! Vincent! Don’t scare me! Somebody! Somebody help!"

Hearing Kimberly’s panicked cries, Noelle and the others froze for a second before rushing over.

When they arrived at the bedroom, they found Maria standing there, completely dumbfounded.

Her chubby face had gone deathly pale, and she looked utterly stunned. She shook her head frantically while mumbling, "No! I don’t know anything! I don’t know anything!"

On the other side, Kimberly was sobbing uncontrollably, holding Vincent tightly in her arms.

Tears streamed down her face as she wiped away the blood. "Vincent, Vincent, don’t scare me! What’s happening to you?"

Vincent was still vomiting blood, which was gushing from his mouth as if an endless flow.

His pajamas were already soaked in red. It was a horrifying sight.

Leia was shocked by the scene, and her palms drenched.

Although she desperately wished for Vincent’s death, watching him vomit blood so violently made her tremble with fear and break out in a cold sweat.

She mumbled, "Why is it so serious?"

Noelle quickly rushed over to the panicked Kimberly and instructed, "Mom, don’t hold Dad like that. Lay him on his stomach on the bed."

"O–okay, okay. Noelle, you must save him!" Seeing Noelle, Kimberly clung to her like a lifeline and followed her instructions immediately.

Meanwhile, Damon suddenly walked up to Maria.

Grabbing her by the wrist with a dark and menacing glare, he asked coldly, "What happened? Why is my dad vomiting blood? What did you put in the medicine! Out with it!"

"Ahh!" Maria was petrified.

She frantically shook her head and said, "No! I didn’t do anything! Mr. Damon, I swear I’m innocent! I’ve been preparing the medicine following Miss Noelle’s prescription!"

Suddenly, Leia turned to Maria and scolded, "Maria, what do you mean by that?"

"Huh?" Maria was dumbfounded.

Leia continued with a stern expression, "Are you implying that Noelle harmed her own father? You did something wrong, and now you want to blame her! Just admit it already! Why did you try to murder my dad?! If you don’t confess, we’ll send you to jail!"

Maria’s heart nearly stopped when she heard Leia’s accusation.

She thought, "I’m just a servant. Why am I suddenly accused of murder! And jail? These people are heartless. The moment something goes wrong, they want to make me a scapegoat. This is outrageous!"

Terrified at the thought of going to prison, Maria lost all restraint and blurted out, "Miss Leia, I swear I’m innocent! I have nothing against Mr. Vincent. Why would I want to kill him?

"But Miss Noelle… you all treated her horribly at first! You even made her stay in a storeroom! Everyone saw that! Do you think treating her nicely now changes anything! Do you think the damage you caused can just be undone!

"If you ask me, maybe Miss Noelle’s prescription was the problem. Maybe she’s been planning this all along, waiting for the perfect moment to get her revenge!"
