Chapter 168
Everyone rushed upstairs, following the noise to Mirandaโs bedroom. They found a chaotic scene. Quincey sat on the floor, two luxury bags scattered nearby. Seeing them, she burst into loud sobs, kicking wildly like a spoiled child.
Jenny rushed to her. โQuincey, whatโs wrong? Donโt scare me. Come on, letโs get you upโฆโ
โI wonโt! I wonโt get up unless Miranda apologizes!โ Quincey screamed.
Miranda sneered. โFine, then stay there. You can lie down too, if you like.โ
Jennyโs eyes narrowed. โApologize for what? Tell me, what happened?โ
โMom, Miranda hit me!โ
Jennyโs eyes widened, turning to Miranda. โHow could you hit her?โ
Miranda replied, โAunt Jenny, Iโm so sorry. I heard noise from my closet when I returned. I thought a thief had broken in, soโฆ But why was Quincey in my room? She seemed to be going through my things.โ
Her gaze flicked to the bags on the floor.
Jennyโs expression changed. โI seeโฆ Quincey must have been curious, but you still shouldnโt have hit her!โ
โI didnโt know it was Quincey. I genuinely thought it was a thief. After all, who rummages through someone elseโs belongings during a visit?โ
Jenny glared at her daughter. Quincey avoided her gaze, biting her lip in guilt.
Mindy smiled, trying to smooth things over. โItโs a misunderstanding. Letโs go downstairs and eat.โ
A phone rang. Lionel, closest to it, said, โMiranda, can you get that?โ
โSure.โ He accidentally answered it on speakerphone. Everyone heard Winterโs voice:
โMimi, have you checked your score yet? Is it enough for Bedford College?โ
Everyone was stunned.
โMimi? Why arenโt you saying anything? Can you hear me? Hello? Hello!โ
Miranda snatched the phone. โI was just about to check, but something came up.โ
โForget that, check your score! Thatโs more important!โ
โAlright.โ
All eyes were on Miranda after the call ended, including Quincey, still on the floor.
Lionel swallowed nervously. โMimi, what score were you checking?โ
โMy postgraduate admission exam results.โ
Mindy exclaimed, โYou took the exam?โ
โYes.โ
Jenny raised an eyebrow. โAt your age?โ
โAunt Jenny, plenty of people in their 40s get masterโs degrees. Iโm not that old yet, am I?โ
โWhy did you suddenly decide to take it?โ Jenny asked.
โOh, for fun,โ Miranda replied carelessly.
Jenny was speechless.
Rena smiled. โAre the results out today?โ She looked at the nearby laptop. โIt seems Mimi came up to check her results and found Quincey. Youโre cousins; itโs fine now. Quincey, why donโt you get up?โ
Quincey hesitated, then stood.
โSince youโre checking your results, why not share them? Iโm sure you aced it, Miranda,โ Quincey suggested.
Postgraduate admission exams were difficult, especially for Bedford College, with fierce competition.
