Chapter 0227
โGet out!โ Hansel shouted.
โHansโฆโ Ingrid pleaded.
โI said get out! Canโt you hear me?โ
Ingrid bit her lip, trembling with hurt. There wasnโt even a trace of pity on Hanselโs face.
โAnd one more thing. Unless I give you permission, donโt you dare step foot in this room again. Got it?โ
โWhy?โ Ingrid looked up at him, her eyes brimming with tears. โThis is the master bedroom; it should be our room. Why canโt I come in?โ
โOh, โourโ room?โ Hanselโs smile turned cruel. โDo you really think you deserve that?โ
Ingrid staggered, almost losing her balance. Hansel didnโt make any move to help her. He was watching her with a detached, almost amused expression that seemed to say, โGo ahead. Just keep acting.โ
โGet out!โ he shouted.
Crushed, Ingrid turned to leave.
โWaitโฆโ Hansel stopped her.
Hope flickered in Ingridโs eyes once more. But in the next instant, he said, โTake your trash with you.โ
In the end, Ingrid left the master bedroom with the tray in hand, feeling utterly humiliated.
The housekeeper asked, โMaโam, did Mr. Johnson still refuse to eat?โ
Ingrid quickly composed herself and sighed with feigned concern. โYes, he wouldnโt eat, no matter how much I tried to persuade him. You can take care of these things. Iโll go upstairs and keep him companyโฆโ
โOf course, of course, you go ahead. Iโll handle everything here.โ
Ingrid nodded, her face masking satisfaction as she supported her waist and turned to head upstairs. Yet the moment she turned her back, her smile vanished entirely.
She looked up in the direction of the master bedroom and swore to herself. She would occupy that room someday!
That evening, Hansel unusually stayed in. Around 9:00 pm, he asked Martha to deliver a meal to his room. Ingrid, who was staying in the adjacent guest room, heard the commotion of Martha coming and going. She immediately pressed her lips together.
Was she truly not worth as much as a housekeeper to him?
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was her roommate calling.
Ingrid swiped to answer the call. โHello, Abby.โ
โIngy, are you okay?โ Abigailโs concerned voice came through the line.
But Ingrid didnโt sense the concern in her friendโs voice. Instead, she found it odd โ who would call someone and immediately ask if theyโre okay? Were they really that close?
โIโm fine, whatโs going on?โ
โYou havenโt been to class lately, and you havenโt been answering your phone either. We were really worried something had happened to you!โ
Ingrid gently patted her still-flat belly, speaking in a leisurely tone. โWhat could possibly happen to me?โ
Even if something was up, it was a good thing.
Abigail continued, โWhen are you coming back to class? Youโve missed several roll calls in your major courses, and the instructors have already informed the counselor. Theyโve been trying to reach you, but you never pick upโฆโ
โIf you keep this up, Ingy, itโs not going to end well. Your final grades depend on your regular attendance scores. If you keep skipping, you might end up failing."
Ingrid grew impatient and cut her off. โI know, but Iโve got some really important things going on right now, so I just canโt make it to class. Canโt you cover for me during roll call?โ
โWe canโt do that anymore! The teachers donโt take roll calls now; they make us log in on the app and submit photos in a specific pose. We canโt fake it for you even if we wanted to.โ
Ingrid frowned. โIf itโs not possible, then forget it. I gave you all expensive perfumes last time, and you canโt even help me with something so smallโฆโ
With that, she hung up abruptly.
All of her roommates exchanged bewildered looks.
How did she end up like this?
After hanging up, Ingrid thought for a moment and then dialed another number. The call was answered quickly by a cold voice, โWhat do you want?โ
She hesitated, biting her lip. โCan you get me that kind of medicine?โ
