Chapter 320
Miranda and Sam sat by the stone table, seemingly engaged in conversation. They were sitting quite close.
She wore a serious expression while Sam listened intently, nodding occasionally. However, Paul caught sight of the faint smile playing on Samโs lips. Even from such a distance, he could sense that Sam was trying to woo Miranda.
His eyes darkened inexplicably.
The next moment, Paul pulled out his phone and called Silas.
โHey, Paul. Whatโs the matter?โ
โDo you want coffee?โ
โHuh?โ Silas checked his phone screen to make sure it really was Paul calling. โWhat do you mean? Why are you suddenly talking about coffee?โ
โDo you want some? Itโs my treat. You can ask the others too.โ
Silas immediately shouted loudly, โDr. Jefferson is treating us to coffee! Anyone who doesnโt want coffee, raise your hand! Great, no one. Everyone wants coffee!โ
โAlright, Iโll go buy it.โ
โWait, why donโt you just order delivery? Itโs more convenient. Why go in person?โ
Paul answered, โIโm already outside, so Iโll go and pick it up on the way. What are your orders?โ
โWhich cafรฉ will you be going to?โ
Paul named a cafรฉ.
Silas said, โI want the signature latte with almond milk, less ice, less sugar. Make sure to ask them for extra milk foam on top, please. Sandy wantsโฆโ
Paul massaged his forehead. โThatโsโฆ too complicated. I canโt remember your order.โ
Silas was baffled. Paul had to be joking.
He had a photographic memory. Usually, he only needed to read through once to commit complex experimental data to memory. Now, this was too complicated for him?
Paul said, โSend the orders to Miranda. I saw her downstairs, and Iโll go with her to pick them up.โ
โAlright, good idea! Iโll send the orders to her right awayโฆโ
After the call, Silas quickly typed a message. โDone, and sent!โ He also added a voice note, โThanks for your help, Mimi!โ
Suddenly, his smile froze. Wait a minute!
If Paul was going to get coffee, it would be easier to send the order to him. Why did he ask to send it to Miranda?
Why was he complicating such a simple issue? Was Paul trying to mess with him?
Paul called out, โMiranda.โ
In the gazebo, both Miranda and Sam looked up at the same time.
โDr. Jefferson? What are you doing here?โ
Paul answered honestly, โI was just passing by.โ
The smile on Samโs face faded as he stood up and extended his hand. โWe meet again, Dr. Jefferson.โ
โMr. Cooper, nice to meet you,โ he replied.
Their eyes met. One seemed calm, while the other appeared indifferent. The tension in the air began to rise.
โMr. Cooper, you must be quite free to pay the college a visit.โ Paul released his grip and immediately retracted his hand.
Sam replied, โIโm here on a request to help Dr. Sanchez with something.โ
At that moment, Miranda saw Silasโ message. She turned to Paul in surprise. โDr. Jefferson, are you treating everyone to coffee?โ
โYes. I tried the latte you gave me last time and found it pretty good. Iโm going to the same place today.โ Paul mentioned the name of the cafรฉ.
Miranda nodded. โAlright, but please give me some time to finish. Itโll be just a moment.โ
โOkay.โ
Initially, Sam still had a faint smile on his face, but his smile disappeared when he heard the name of the cafรฉ. A suspicion started to form in his mind as he asked, โDr. Jefferson, do you drink lattes too?โ
โI never did before. I only tried the one Miranda bought last time and found it quite tasty.โ
โWas it hot or cold?โ
Paul smiled. โItโs warm.โ
โIs there anything special on the packaging?โ
โI remember there was a hand-drawn picture of a heart with a Cupidโs arrow on the cup. Do shops now offer such personalized services? They even draw on the cups of drinks now!โ
Samโs heart sank in despair. It was the same cup he had bought for Miranda!
โAlright.โ Miranda was done reviewing Samโs answer key to the final exam. โThere are three answers where the details are lacking. Iโve added the notes in pen beside them. You can take it back to Dr. Sanchez now.โ
