Chapter 321
With that, she handed the paper and pen to Sam. โIโll be going first.โ
Sam could only reply with a smile, โAlright, see you later.โ
โGreat. Letโs go, Dr. Jefferson. The cafรฉ is right across the street from where we live.โ It was the same place she had gone with Sam the last time they had to discuss something.
โThe coffeeโs here!โ
Sandy, Silas, and Bryan hurried over.
โThank you, Dr. Jefferson! And to you too, Miranda!โ
โI feel guilty making the two of you busy people run errands for us!โ
Silas reached for his cup and took a big sip. โAh, so refreshing!โ
Sandy asked, โIs it really that good?โ
Bryan took his and Elizabethโs drink before thanking Paul and Miranda with a smile. Then, he eagerly brought the coffee to her.
โLizzy, hereโs your drink.โ
โOh.โ
Elizabethโs heart sank when she heard that Miranda had gone with Paul to buy coffee for everyone. She lost all interest in the drink.
Yet, Bryan continued to pester her.
โLizzy, why arenโt you drinking it? Itโll go cold if you wait too long. It wonโt taste as good then. Here, let me cool it down for you.โ
Losing her patience, Elizabeth snapped, โYouโre so annoying! Canโt you stop rambling on and on? Please, just shut up!โ
With that, she got up and left.
Bryan scratched his head and glanced at the untouched latte on the table. โYou didnโt say you didnโt want it when I asked earlierโฆโ
Why did she agree, only to toss it aside afterward? Wasnโt it a waste?
Bryan would probably never understand. This was the difference between them. Their gap wasnโt about education or values, but the difference in familial background and upbringing.
Elizabeth hadnโt refused the coffee because she wanted it, but simply because it was Paul who offered to treat everyone. That was all.
She walked out to the hallway to get some fresh air. Suddenly, her phone rang.
She answered, โHello?โ
โElizabeth, Iโve found the apartment you asked me to help with!โ It was her old friend, Tom Reagan.
โYou found it?โ Elizabethโs eyes lit up.
Tom said, โYeah. Let me tell you, I went through so much troubleโฆ The owners are an elderly couple whoโve lived there for most of their lives. They didnโt want to rent it out initially. I had to really persuade them.
โCoincidentally, their son is dealing with some financial issues and urgently needs money, so they finally agreed to vacate the home. But regarding the rentโฆโ
โMoney isnโt a problem. Which unit, floor, and block is it specifically?โ
โItโs on the ground floor of the third block.โ
Paul lived on the seventh floor of the first block. Thisโฆ couldnโt be much farther.
The light in Elizabethโs eyes dimmed. She responded indifferently, โIs there a unit in another block?โ
โThis is the only one available right now. Itโs an older neighborhood, so most of the homes are not up for rent. The apartment in another neighborhood that I sent you on WhatsApp also met your criteria, but Iโm not sure why you refused to consider itโฆ
โMs. Lincoln, why donโt you just tell me which unit, floor, and block you want to rent? Iโll ask on your behalf!โ
Looking to rent an apartment wasnโt her real goal. In actual fact, she was more concerned about a certain someone!
Elizabeth didnโt pick up on the sarcasm in Tomโs voice and thought he was being serious. She thought and said, โHow about you help me look for an apartment in the first block of this neighborhood? Preferably on the fifth or sixth floor.โ
She initially wanted to ask for the seventh floor, but Paul and Miranda were already living there. It wasnโt an option for her. The nearest unit would be the sixth floor.
Tom, who was a real estate agent, let out an incredulous laugh. โFine, Iโll look into it for you!โ Not a chance!
Just as Elizabeth hung up, a voice came from behind her, โLizzy, are you looking to rent a place?โ
Elizabeth stiffened. She turned slowly and saw Bryan standing nearby, holding a latte in his hand. She didnโt know how long he had been standing there or how much he had overheardโฆ
