Chapter 0368

Duane returned to the gathering in a daze, forcing a smile as he continued to toast the big shots. Winter had dropped him, and he had no leverage over her anymore. This dinner was his last chance.

โ€œMr. Campbell, weโ€™ve met a few times before. Itโ€™s my first time having the honor to toast you today. I hope youโ€™ll look out for me in the future.โ€

At past events, Duane never even got close to the big players, let alone had a chance to toast them.

Calvin crossed his arms, grinning. โ€œWhatโ€™s your name again, Duane something, right?โ€

โ€œYes, Duane Dunn.โ€

โ€œAh, thatโ€™s right. Heard you can handle your drinks?โ€

โ€œNot really, I can manage a few cups,โ€ Duane said modestly.

โ€œI heard youโ€™re here to go after the supporting role in Mr. Plightโ€™s A-list series?โ€ Calvin asked, eyes narrowing.

Duaneโ€™s expression grew serious. โ€œWhat are you suggesting, Mr. Campbell?โ€

โ€œWell, Iโ€™m not saying itโ€™s impossible for you to get the role, isnโ€™t that right, Mr. Plight?โ€ Calvin said, glancing at Jameson.

Jameson raised an eyebrow. Though unsure of what Calvin was up to, he was happy to play along. โ€œOf course.โ€

Duaneโ€™s eyes lit up with hope.

โ€œThereโ€™s just one tiny condition,โ€ Calvin continued. โ€œIt should be pretty easy for you.โ€

โ€œPlease, go ahead.โ€

โ€œFinish all the liquor on this table, and the role is yours,โ€ Calvin stated.

At his words, everyone turned to Duane, ready to watch the spectacle unfold.

Duaneโ€™s face paled. โ€œMr. Campbell, youโ€™re making this difficult for me.โ€

โ€œYes, I am,โ€ Calvin replied with a shrug. โ€œBut you donโ€™t have to drink. Just know that the role will go to someone else if you donโ€™t.โ€

The table was loaded with drinksโ€“red wine, white spirits, beer. Drinking them all would mean at least half-killing himself. But Duane only hesitated for two seconds before deciding, โ€œIโ€™ll drink.โ€

Calvin clapped. โ€œGood choice.โ€

As Duane started downing the drinks, Calvin took out his phone and texted Zach.

Calvin: โ€œItโ€™s done, just like you asked.โ€

Calvin: โ€œWhy are you messing with him anyway? Just because he had his arm around your girlfriend?โ€

Calvin: โ€œIsnโ€™t it a fake relationship? Arenโ€™t you both free to do as you please? Canโ€™t handle it?โ€

Three texts were sent, but there was no reply.

At that moment, Zach was trailing Winter into a bar.

She didnโ€™t waste any time at all. Dumped the boy toy and was now out partying like nothing happened.

As she danced, a man approached her, trying to hit on her.

Winter gave him a quick look and replied, โ€œToo old, not interested.โ€ Then she walked away, leaving him standing there, grinding his teeth in frustration.

Zach, who was sitting in a booth, laughed until his stomach hurt.

โ€œWhatโ€™s so funny?โ€ Winter returned from the dance floor, giving him a playful kick. โ€œIs it really that funny?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s hilarious, actually,โ€ he said, chuckling.

โ€œYouโ€™re just as old as he is.โ€

Zach was dumbfounded.

โ€œLaughing at him is like laughing at yourself.โ€

Her words left him at a loss for words. She knew exactly how to tease.

Winter sat down, casually poured herself a drink. She was still catching her breath, her skin glistening with sweat from dancing.

That feeling of letting goโ€“it was exhilarating.

โ€œSo, whyโ€™d you follow me here? Thought the party wasnโ€™t over yet?โ€ she asked offhandedly.

โ€œI got bored. When did you notice I was tailing you?โ€

โ€œWhen I entered the bar. What do you want?โ€

Zach raised his glass, smirking. โ€œI figured you might be upset, crying your eyes out after getting bitten by your own dog.โ€

โ€œPfft, something that minor? You think Iโ€™m that fragile?โ€

โ€œArenโ€™t all women sensitive?โ€
