Lucy and Franklin had been secretly following Hansel to the campus, trying to stay out of sight, afraid they might get caught. They didn’t dare reveal themselves, but from such a distance, they couldn’t make out any details. They wished they had a pair of binoculars to see better.

But one thing was clear to them—Hansel had found someone new! No wonder he had abandoned Ingrid!

For the past month, Lucy and Franklin had been enjoying the good life, pampered by the Johnson family. Evelyn had catered to their every whim, providing whatever they asked for, and they had gotten far too comfortable. They were comfortable to the point where they didn’t want to return to the poverty they’d once known.

In any case, as long as they could get the money they were after, the two of them would never have to worry again. Seeing that Evelyn had been pushed to her limit, they finally felt satisfied. They decided it was time to demand the money and walk away.

However, when Lucy boldly demanded a staggering 50 million, Evelyn was completely shocked, as if her soul had left her body. She stared at Lucy for a whole minute. After realizing this wasn’t a joke, she then snapped, “50 million? You must be dreaming!”

Afterward, Evelyn turned and stormed off. From that moment on, Evelyn stopped taking Lucy’s calls and cut off all the financial support, including the hotel expenses. Reality hit Lucy and Franklin hard—they had misplayed their hand.

“Mom, how about we ask for five million instead?” Franklin suggested.

After some hesitation, Lucy gritted her teeth and agreed. “Fine, five million it is!”

Even so, Evelyn still wouldn’t take her calls. She had completely cut them off. After the company’s shareholders' meeting, Evelyn saw no need to indulge the greedy mother and son duo any longer.

Realizing she wasn’t going to budge, Lucy and Franklin turned their attention to Hansel. But he was always protected by security guards. After their last stunt, the security at the company had been tightened, making it impossible for them to sneak in. They resorted to following him around and waiting for an opportunity. After a few days of this, Lucy finally got lucky! She also discovered something shocking—a mistress!

Just as she was about to move closer to get a good look at Hansel’s new woman, her phone suddenly rang. Annoyed, she ducked behind a tree and answered, “Hello?”

“Mom, where are you and Franklin? Why haven’t you come to see me? I’m all alone in the hospital. Don’t you care about me at all?”

Ever since Lucy and Franklin had moved out of Ingrid’s ward, they hadn’t returned to check on her. Ingrid had been uncooperative with her treatment, constantly throwing tantrums, crying, and causing her condition to worsen. Because of that, she’d been in the hospital for over a month and still hadn’t been discharged.

A nurse nearby noticed Ingrid’s rising anxiety and took the phone. “Are you Ms. Ingrid’s family? Her condition is unstable right now. You need to come to the hospital immediately.”

Lucy really didn’t want to go. She was used to the comfort of a luxury hotel by now, and the smell of disinfectant in the hospital made her feel nauseous. Yet, on second thought, she realized Ingrid was the key to squeezing more out of the Johnson family. There was no way she could let things fall apart now.

“Fine, we’ll be there,” Lucy replied.

“Ingrid’s staying in an expensive hospital. She’s eating the best food, and still throwing fits? She’s so spoiled!” Franklin couldn’t help but complain.

Some people just had no idea how lucky they were. If he were to describe her in one word, it would be dramatic!

Lucy nodded in agreement. “Right? She’s so inconsiderate. We’ve been running around nonstop for her, and instead of being grateful, she just makes things harder.”

When they arrived at the hospital, Ingrid nearly burst into tears at the sight of her mother and brother. “Mom, Frankie, why did it take you so long to come? I was so scared you’d forgotten about me.”

Lucy jabbed a finger at her daughter’s head, scolding her sharply. “All you do is cry! Don’t you know how much we’ve been doing for you? We’ve been busy negotiating with the Johnson family, trying to get Hansel to take responsibility and give you the status you deserve! And here you are, making things worse. Why did I raise such a foolish daughter?”

Ingrid rubbed her forehead, pouting. “How was I supposed to know? You never tell me anything.”
