Feeling wronged yet hopeful, Ingrid asked, โDid you just say Hansel would give me a proper status? What did he say?โ
Now that the baby was gone, and the 500 million vanished with it, her hopes of getting the money had faded. But if she could marry into the Johnson family and become part of the wealthy elite, would she ever worry about money again?
Ingrid had spent the past month in the hospital. During that time, she often thought about how, when she was still pregnant and the baby was fine, she would constantly go to the hospital, argue with Hansel every day, and fight with Evelyn.
She had relied on her strong constitution and pushed herself too hard, annoying others while also wearing herself down. Her diet consisted mostly of cold drinks and cold fruits.
The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to slap herself.
If only she had knownโฆ if only sheโd known that she could lose the baby, she would have settled down and taken care of herself.
Why couldnโt she have waited until after giving birth to vent her anger?
Lucy frowned. โWhat could he possibly say? Hansel is not easy to deal with, and itโs tough even to get a meeting with him.โ
Hearing this, Franklin got irritated, too. Evelyn had been ready to offer them money. Why not just take the five million and leave?
Lucy insisted on asking for 50 million, saying they wouldnโt take a penny less.
Franklin glanced at his mother, feeling a bit of resentment, though he didnโt let it show. โMom, what do we do now?โ he asked.
Lucyโs eyes flashed with determination. โWeโve got nothing to lose. If he refuses, weโll keep causing trouble. Letโs see who gives in first!โ
The next day, the mother and son duo showed up at Hanselโs company again. The front entrance was heavily guarded, so they couldnโt get in.
Luckily, Franklin had found a hidden door behind an advertising poster, which led to the buildingโs fire escape.
The door blended into the wallpaper so well that it was hard to notice at first glance. Once through the door, they could access any floor in the building.
But to their dismay, there was no elevator.
โMomโฆ maybe we should think of another way?โ Franklin gulped. Climbing 20 or 30 floors was going to be brutal.
Lucy snapped, โWhat are you afraid of? Just climb! Five million is at stake here. You still think this is too much work?โ
Franklin was instantly motivated. Money was waiting at the top!
Fifty minutes later, they finally reached Hanselโs floor. Lucy pulled out a wrench she had prepared in advance and smashed open the fire escape door, giving the staff no time to react.
She began shouting at the top of her lungs. โHansel Johnson, you scumbag! If you donโt give us an explanation today, I wonโt live anymore!
โEveryone, come and judge this! Hansel got my daughter pregnant and now refuses to take responsibility! My daughter is still in the hospital, and we have no money and no one to help us! Heโs pushing us into a corner!
โIf you donโt take responsibility, Iโll jump from here! Even in death, I wonโt leave you in peace!โ
Lucy shouted with all her might, but unfortunately, the soundproofing between the floors was excellent. No one on the other floors could hear her screams.
On this floor, however, the only people present were Hanselโs assistants and secretariesโnone of whom dared to let any word of this leak out.
Even so, Lucy didnโt know this. She continued yelling and screaming with all her energy.
The staff around her exchanged awkward glances, unsure how to respond. It wasnโt until Lucy sat on the window ledge, threatening to jump, that they began to take her seriously.
She could die for all they cared, but she couldnโt die here.
Thankfully, Hansel emerged from his office just in time. His expression was cold as he looked at Lucy, who was perched on the window ledge, and Franklin, who was pretending to dissuade her.
โAre you done?โ he asked in a flat tone. โIsnโt it money youโre after? Come inside and talk.โ
Without waiting for their reaction, he turned and walked back into his office.
