โSam, whatโs your problem?โ Hansel asked as he approached him.
โWhat are you talking about?โ Sam replied.
โWhy did you suspend the development project?โ
Sam casually took another sip of tea. โI didnโt want to collaborate with you, so I suspended it. Do you have an issue with that?โ
โYou suspended it just because of that reason? Do you know how much money weโre losing daily if itโs delayed?โ
Sam replied, โYeah. I know.โ
โThen, why the hell did you do it?โ
Sam finished his tea and poured himself another. His movement was smooth and practiced.
Hansel stopped him. โYouโve been avoiding me for three days, and now youโre just sitting here silently. Are you planning to keep dragging this out?โ
Sam finally looked up. โWho said I was avoiding you?โ
โYour secretary told me you were on a business trip. Isnโt that your way of avoiding me?โ
โAvoiding you?โ Sam asked sarcastically. โYouโre really overthinking this. I went to Lumberville for an investigation. That trip was planned two weeks ago. Why would I need to avoid you?โ
Hansel paused, and something clicked in his mind. โLumberville?โ
Sam smiled teasingly.
Calvin leaned in suddenly. โSam, did you go to Lumberville? That place is great. The food and drinks are totally my vibeโฆ By the way, isnโt Miranda from Lumbervilleโฆ Hey, whyโd you hit meโโ
Zach desperately tried to get Calvinโs attention. But when Calvin didnโt get the hint, Zach had no choice but to hit him.
Calvin finally realized he had misspoken and quickly clammed up.
Hansel stared at the calm Sam and asked slowly, โYou went to Lumberville to find her?โ
Sam replied coolly, โAs I said earlier, I went there for an investigation. Butโฆโ He changed his tone. โI did run into Mimi.โ
โWhat did you just call her?โ
โMimi,โ Sam said.
Hansel snapped, โI dare you to say it one more time!โ
โMimiโฆ Mimiโฆโ Sam repeated.
Hansel grabbed him by the collar. โSam Cooper, didnโt I warn you last time?โ
Sam shrugged off Hanselโs grip and smoothed out his shirt. โWarning? What makes you think youโre in a position to give one as an ex? Talk about a big ego.โ
Hansel took a deep breath. โSo, is this your reason for ending our partnership? I thought you could keep it professional despite what happened between us because of Miranda. Looks like I gave you too much credit.โ
โDoes she even know how childish you are? Guess what? She canโt stand men who canโt keep things professional.โ
Sam slammed his teacup down with a dull thud. โForget it. Your mind games wonโt work on me.โ
He continued, โTell me, Hansel. Did you come here today to talk about Miranda or the project? Or are you using her to get me to talk business?โ
โHonestly, itโs not just this project. I plan to cut ties on all our collaborations one by one. From now on, you go your way, and Iโll go mine. Letโs draw a line between us and stay out of each otherโs business.โ
Hanselโs eyes widened. โWhat do you mean?โ
โDo you not get what I mean?โ Sam asked.
โWhy? Is it because Iโm Mirandaโs ex? Have you lost your fucking mind? Youโre willing to throw away all this money just to satisfy your pride?โ
The two had more than 20 ongoing projects together. Some projects were led by Sam, others by Hansel, and a few were joint ventures they had invested in, which third parties managed.
Splitting up would likely put a stop to most of their ongoing projects. They had already invested significant money, and ending their partnership now would mean losing everything.
โDo you really need to do this?โ Hansel demanded. โYou want to pursue Miranda? Fine, go ahead! I never said anything about ending our partnership, but now youโre taking it too far!โ
