โ€œIโ€™ll treat you to dinner!โ€ Zach immediately offered.

โ€œNo need. I already have plans. Maybe next time,โ€ Winter replied, moving to walk past him.

Zach quickly caught up to her. โ€œThen let me give you a ride?โ€

Winter paused, glancing at him suspiciously. โ€œAre you serious?โ€

โ€œYeah, totally!โ€ Zach nodded enthusiastically.

โ€œAlright, then. Just hurry up.โ€ Winter had been so exhausted from working overtime all week that she hadnโ€™t even bothered to drive to work, opting for a cab.

Zach, with all the chivalry he could muster, opened the passenger door for her. Unfortunately, things didnโ€™t go as he wanted.

Winter glanced at the seat and said, โ€œIโ€™ll sit in the back; itโ€™s easier for me to lie down.โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ Zach sighed.

As he steered through traffic, he couldnโ€™t help but feel a wave of frustration. Was there any better boyfriend than him? He had waited an hour to pick her up from work, only to drive her to dinner with another guy.

But then again, if he hadnโ€™t offered to give her a ride, Winter would have already been long gone by now. Besides, he was curious. He wanted to know who this mystery guy wasโ€“someone so important that even after a week of grueling overtime, Winter couldnโ€™t wait to see.

Winter was stretched out comfortably in the back seat. โ€œWhatโ€™s with the heavy sighing?โ€ she asked, looking at the ceiling of the car with half-lidded eyes.

โ€œDid I sigh?โ€ Zach asked, playing dumb.

โ€œYeah, you just did.โ€

โ€œDidnโ€™t you say youโ€™ve been working overtime all week?โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ Winter placed a small pillow under her neck, finally feeling comfortable.

Zach raised an eyebrow. โ€œYouโ€™re busy, yet you still found time to play tennis.โ€

Winter shot him a sharp look. โ€œCalvin told you, didnโ€™t he?โ€

Zach scoffed.

โ€œYouโ€™ve got some nerve. I swear, the guys you hang out withโ€“Calvin, Hansel, all of themโ€“theyโ€™re a bit unhinged,โ€ Winter complained.

Zach blinked, confused. โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œI hired a personal trainer to help me fix my serve, and Calvin charges in without asking questions and punches the guy in the face. He nearly broke his nose! And then I had to pay two thousand dollars in compensation. Seriously, is he as messed up as you?โ€ Winter rolled her eyes.

โ€œโ€ฆA personal trainer?โ€ Zach muttered.

โ€œYeah, what else?โ€ she retorted.

He hesitated, then chuckled awkwardly. โ€œUh, nothingโ€ฆโ€

She glanced at him, bewildered by the sudden switch in tone. They truly were unhinged!

โ€œBy the way, where am I heading?โ€ Zach asked, switching topics quickly.

โ€œTo Mimiโ€™s place. You know where that is, right?โ€

โ€œMiranda? Youโ€™re on the way to meet her?โ€ His eyebrows shot up.

โ€œWho else?โ€ Winter shot back. โ€œWhy do you have so many questions, Zach Graham?โ€

Zachโ€™s grin stretched wider. โ€œIโ€™ll try to keep quiet from now on,โ€ he said, chuckling under his breath. โ€œYouโ€™ve been working so hard. I bet youโ€™re exhausted. How about I arrange a luxury spa session for you? Iโ€™ll use my momโ€™s card, and theyโ€™ll come to your house.โ€

Winter narrowed her eyes as she looked at the back of Zachโ€™s head, watching his behavior shift from suspicion to concern. After a pause, she asked cautiously, โ€œAre you sureโ€ฆ you didnโ€™t just escape from a mental hospital?โ€

Zach was at a loss for words.

When they reached Mirandaโ€™s apartment building, Winter bolted up the stairs. As soon as she opened the door, the rich aroma of crab rolls nearly knocked her out with delight.

โ€œHurry up! I want ten of these now!โ€ she exclaimed.

After devouring the rolls, Winter sprawled out on the couch. She ate fruit from Mirandaโ€™s carefully arranged platter while engrossed in her favorite variety show. It was a perfect night.

At 10:00 pm, Winter reluctantly got ready to leave.

โ€œWhy donโ€™t you stay the night?โ€ Miranda offered.

Winter shook her head. โ€œIโ€™ve got a date tomorrow. If I sleep here, I might not have enough time to go home and change.โ€

โ€œAlright then,โ€ Miranda said, walking her to the door.

Winter left the apartment building, ready to call for a ride. That was when she spotted a familiar car parked by the curb. She walked over and knocked on the window cautiously.

Zach jolted awake inside, realizing he had dozed off.

โ€œWhy on earth are you still here?โ€ she asked, folding her arms as she looked down at him.
