Listen to this chapter:

โ€œI donโ€™t eat noodles,โ€ Winter said.

Zach gave her a look that clearly said, โ€œYeah, right. Like I believe that.โ€

She was about to head back to her room when he suddenly asked, โ€œHow about a drink?โ€

Winter glanced back at the wine, noticing the condensation on the decanter. It was her favorite kind of wine, and it was perfectly chilled.

โ€œFine, pour me a glass!โ€ she said, giving in to the temptation.

Zach eagerly grabbed a glass. โ€œHere, try it out! I promise youโ€™ll love it.โ€

Winter took the glass from him, raising an eyebrow. โ€œThatโ€™s only because Iโ€™ve got good wine.โ€

โ€œSure, sure, your wineโ€™s great, and my skills are top-notch. Together, weโ€™re unbeatable!โ€ Zach grinned.

โ€œYou just focus on complimenting yourself and leave me out of it,โ€ Winter shot back before taking a sip. Zach was speechless. She really didnโ€™t let him have an inch.

Just one sip, and Winter had to admit that Zach wasnโ€™t lying. The wine was perfectly prepared.

โ€œWell? Not bad, right?โ€ Zach asked, crossing his arms, looking rather proud of himself.

โ€œItโ€™s decent,โ€ Winter replied after a pause. She wasnโ€™t about to inflate his ego too much.

โ€œJust decent?โ€ Zach was a little offended.

Winter took another sip, teasingly humming in satisfaction.

โ€œHey, are you gonna finish your noodles? Theyโ€™re already getting soggy,โ€ she pointed out.

โ€œWhat!โ€ Zach scrambled back to his bowl. โ€œTheyโ€™re soggy already?โ€

He sat down again, slurping the now-soft noodles with gusto. When he finished the last of the noodles and broth, Winterโ€™s empty wine glass suddenly appeared in front of his face.

The glass was delicate, with smooth, curved edges. Her fingers were slender, and her nails were painted in a soft, glossy pink. The sight of her hand caught Zach completely off guard.

โ€œHey, did you hear me?โ€ Winter asked.

โ€œHuh?โ€ Zach blinked, momentarily dazed. โ€œWhat did you say?โ€

โ€œI asked for a refill,โ€ Winter repeated.

โ€œOh! Right! Sure!โ€ Zach hurriedly reached for the glass. In his rush, he grabbed her hand instead of the glass.

The instant he touched her, it was like an electric shock. His entire body tensed up, and a wave of heat flushed through him.

Winter smacked his hand, and Zach recoiled, staring at the red mark now forming on the back of his hand. โ€œWhy did you hit me?โ€

โ€œBecause I asked for more wine, not for you to grope me, you perv!โ€

โ€œWhat? How am I a perv? All I did was accidentally brush your hand! I didnโ€™t mean to touch anything elseโ€ฆโ€

As he grumbled, his voice trailed off. Maybe he felt guilty or just realized he didnโ€™t have a leg to stand on. Winter shot him a cold look. โ€œOh, you were thinking of touching somewhere else, huh? Why donโ€™t you just fly straight to the moon while youโ€™re at it? Youโ€™ve probably been this sleazy for ages, havenโ€™t you? So used to it that it feels normal now, right?"

She continued, her tone laced with irritation, โ€œIโ€™m telling you, without a girlโ€™s permission, even if you touch her foot or her hair, itโ€™s inappropriate. Consider yourself lucky I didnโ€™t slap you across the face. And now youโ€™re acting like the victim?โ€

Zach gulped. โ€œBut-โ€

โ€œNo buts! When youโ€™re wrong, you stand up straight and take the hit. Stop trying to make excuses,โ€ Winter snapped.

Zach knew he couldnโ€™t win this argument, so he quietly poured her more wine. โ€œAlright, alright. I was wrong; itโ€™s my bad. Hereโ€™s your wine, my lady,โ€ he said.

Winter took it, finally satisfied. โ€œThatโ€™s more like it.โ€

She sipped her wine and leaned back comfortably on the couch. Zach filled his own glass as well.

As the night deepened, the wine started to go to their heads. One glass after another, they slowly began to feel the buzz take over.
