Chapter 0512

โ€œNo more for me,โ€ Winter said as she set down her wine glass and stood up. Drinking too much could lead to trouble, especially with a man in the house. She knew her limits.

Zach paused mid-drink. โ€œWhy are you leaving already? We havenโ€™t even finished the bottle.โ€

โ€œWhat, you think my place is some kind of bar? You want to drink until the sun comes up?โ€ Winter shot back.

โ€œItโ€™s already open, and itโ€™s perfectly aged. Seems like a waste not to finish it.โ€

โ€œIt wonโ€™t be a waste. Iโ€™ll save it and drink it tomorrow by myself.โ€

Zach speechlessly stared at her.

Winter pointed at the clock on the wall. โ€œItโ€™s late. Time for you to go.โ€

He grumbled, โ€œWhy are you like this?โ€

Winter raised an eyebrow. โ€œLike what?โ€

โ€œYou call me when you need me, but the moment youโ€™re done, you kick me out. Do people really act like that?โ€

โ€œWhat do you expect? Am I supposed to ask you to stay the night?โ€

โ€œWell, yeah! Itโ€™s normal for a boyfriend to stay at his girlfriendโ€™s place, right? Even if weโ€™re faking it, shouldnโ€™t we at least pretend properly?โ€

โ€œNonsense! Who cares if weโ€™re staying together or not?โ€ Winter snapped.

Just then, Zachโ€™s phone buzzed with a video call notification. He glanced at the screen, and a smirk tugged at his lips. โ€œSpeak of the devil.โ€

Before Winter could react, Zach answered the call. โ€œHey, Mom, why are you calling so late? Whatโ€™s up?โ€

โ€œWhere are you?โ€ Phoebe asked, her face appearing on the screen. โ€œThis doesnโ€™t look like your place.โ€

Zach chuckled. โ€œIโ€™m at Winterโ€™s.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ Phoebe sounded surprised. โ€œDonโ€™t try to trick meโ€ฆโ€

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t dream of lying to you! Here, let me get her to say hi. Winter, my momโ€™s onโ€ฆ.โ€

Winter quickly put on a bright smile and sat beside him. โ€œGood evening, Mrs. Graham.โ€

โ€œOh, hello! So youโ€™re really together! Are you getting ready for bed?โ€

โ€œMhm,โ€ Winter replied sweetly.

โ€œMake sure to dry your hair properly. Keeping it wrapped too long isnโ€™t good.โ€

โ€œWill do, Mrs. Graham. Iโ€™ll dry it soon.โ€

โ€œLet Zach help you with that.โ€

โ€œOkayโ€ฆโ€

Phoebeโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œThat bracelet looks beautiful on you. I knew I picked the right one!โ€

Winter glanced at her wrist, where the royal emerald bracelet Phoebe had gifted her shimmered under the light.

โ€œWell, Mrs. Graham, youโ€™ve got great taste.โ€

Her compliment made Phoebe beam with joy. โ€œIโ€™ve got plenty more like that. You can wear whatever you like. Eventually, all these will be yours!โ€

Zach was Phoebeโ€™s only son. In the future, all of her jewelry and family heirlooms would naturally go to her daughter-in-law, wouldnโ€™t they?

Winter silently thought, โ€œNot if I can help itโ€ฆโ€ Even so, she kept smiling and responded politely, โ€œThank you.โ€

Phoebe chuckled. โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll leave you two lovebirds alone. Goodnight!โ€

โ€œGoodnight, Mrs. Graham,โ€ Winter said.

Zach put his phone away with a satisfied grin. โ€œSee? My momโ€™s always keeping an eye on us.โ€

Winter rolled her eyes. โ€œWell, I just helped you fool her, so youโ€™re good now. Get going. Iโ€™m going to bed.โ€

โ€œWait,โ€ Zach said, ignoring her. โ€œWhereโ€™s your hairdryer?โ€

โ€œWhat for?โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t hear my momโ€™s orders? I need to dry your hair.โ€

โ€œI can do it myself.โ€

โ€œNope, I need to take a picture to send to her, or sheโ€™ll be on my case again tomorrow,โ€ Zach insisted.

โ€œFine, just get it over with.โ€

Zach grabbed the blow dryer and started drying her hair with surprising skill.

Winter raised an eyebrow. โ€œYouโ€™ve done this before, havenโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m a man of many talents.โ€

โ€œYeah, I bet youโ€™ve practiced on plenty of other girls to get this good,โ€ she teased.

Zachโ€™s eyes twinkled mischievously. โ€œJealous, are we?โ€

โ€œOf what? Youโ€™re not my man. I donโ€™t care whose hair youโ€™ve dried. I was just thinkingโ€ฆโ€ Winter rubbed her chin thoughtfully. โ€œWith skills like this, if you ever go bankrupt, you could always work at a salon as an assistant and make a living."
