Listen to this chapter:

Miranda and Madison immediately turned their gaze toward Sebastian. He scratched his head awkwardly. โ€œWhy are you two looking at me like that?โ€ It was a bit embarrassing. โ€œSeb, what does your family do exactly?โ€ Madisonโ€™s eyes took on a curious look. Miranda chimed in, โ€œI remember you mentioning that your parents areโ€ฆ civil servants?โ€ It seemed that these โ€œcivil servantsโ€ werenโ€™t the ordinary kind. She stopped there, not pressing further. Madison might be bold, but she knew when to back off. She had heard that children from high-ranking families often kept a low profile. It made sense why he hadnโ€™t mentioned it before, so she didnโ€™t push. Sebastian finally breathed a sigh of relief. โ€œIโ€™ll do my best to make this happen.โ€ โ€œGood,โ€ Madison responded. โ€œFor the lab!โ€ โ€œFor not being kicked out again!โ€ Sebastian added.

After they spoke, they both looked at Miranda. She was startled and instinctively responded, โ€œLetโ€™s charge forward?โ€ โ€œCharge!โ€ they echoed.

They wasted no time and sprang into action immediately. As soon as Madison stepped out of the apartment building, she pulled out her phone and called her dad. โ€œHey, Dad, have you eaten yet?โ€ โ€œYes, yes, I have! What about you?โ€ โ€œI havenโ€™tโ€ฆโ€ Madisonโ€™s voice instantly turned pitiful. Upon hearing this, Mason knew something was wrong. If his precious daughter couldnโ€™t even eat, something major must have happened. โ€œTell me, sweetheart, whatโ€™s going on?โ€ Without hesitation, Madison poured out everything that had happened with the lab in recent days. โ€œThatโ€™s it. Isnโ€™t it infuriating?โ€ Mason slapped his thigh so loud Madison could hear it over the phone. โ€œOutrageous! The college isnโ€™t handling what it should, but itโ€™s quick to protect what doesnโ€™t need protection. A prestigious institution is allowing this to happen? Absolutely disgraceful!โ€ โ€œExactly!โ€ Madison nodded furiously. โ€œAnd you know what else, Dad? I casually mentioned that weโ€™d be better off building our own lab, and two students from Sophieโ€™s team overheard me. They laughed at me, saying I was dreaming in broad daylight, and even called me chubbyโ€ฆโ€ โ€œWhat! They called you chubby? Sweetheart, listen to me. Youโ€™re not chubby, not at all. Thatโ€™s what we call a sign of wealth! Donโ€™t stoop to the level of those country bumpkins!โ€ โ€œHmph! Whatโ€™s a lab anyway? If my darling daughter wants to build one, she can build as many as she wants. Letโ€™s show them what real power looks like and what it means to be slapped in the face by your own words!โ€ โ€œSo, Dad, you agree?โ€ Madison squealed in excitement, with no trace of the sadness or crying from earlier. Mason was a little confused, โ€œAgree to what?โ€ โ€œTo help us build a lab!โ€ โ€œDad? You just promised. You canโ€™t go back on your wordโ€ฆโ€ Mason suddenly realized and said, โ€œOh, so all that buildup was for this?โ€ Madison chuckled sheepishly. โ€œIt wonโ€™t take much, really! Just a little!โ€ โ€œHow much is a little?โ€ โ€œJustโ€ฆ around ten million.โ€ โ€œTen millionโ€ฆ what! Ten million! Does building a lab really cost that much?โ€ That would be enough to build two buildings in their hometown! He could even rent them out for at least 100 grand a monthโ€ฆ โ€œSweetheart, donโ€™t let anyone scam you! There are a lot of scams going around these daysโ€ฆโ€ He stood up in concern, thinking about how pure and innocent his daughter was. It wouldnโ€™t be surprising if someone tried to take advantage of her. A scam? Madison almost laughed out loud at the thought. โ€œDad, itโ€™s not a scam! Itโ€™s not one of those schemes. Miranda is putting in more than I am! Sheโ€™s even giving up a plot of land. And itโ€™s land, Dad, land!โ€
