Chapter 94
โI know youโre in there,โ Hansel said. โCan you please open the door? We need to talk. Miranda! Can you hear me?โ
There was no reply.
โOh, so thatโs how it is, Miranda? Youโre not going to open up, huh? Do you think you can keep me out like this?โ
Hanselโs tone, initially meek, gradually became flat, then furious as his patience wore thin. Just as he turned to leave, he saw a pair of cold eyes. Stunned, he frowned.
The stairway was narrow and dimly lit. Paul stood on the landing, seemingly having just arrived. His presence at this hour was obvious.
Samโs recent outburst and Paulโs sudden appearance had finally made Hansel realize the seriousness of the โbeesโ hovering around Miranda. After calming down, he immediately investigated Paulโs background. Paul was the third Jefferson siblingโno wonder Sam had backed down.
Hansel asked, โAre you here to see Miranda?โ
โHow is that your concern?โ Paul replied expressionlessly.
โYou should know who I am to her.โ
โAnd?โ
Hansel narrowed his eyes. โIf you can take a hint, stay away from her.โ
โIโm sorry, but everyone knows Iโm tactless.โ
โMiranda belongs to me! Sheโs been mine since before. Weโre just fighting; sheโll still be mine afterward.โ
Paul frowned. โSheโs a person, not an object. She doesnโt belong to anyone. Only she can be the master of her own self.โ
Hansel smirked. โYou seem to know little about women despite being well-read, Dr. Jefferson. Love and hate are two sides of the same coin. Mirandaโs acting this way only because she loves me deeply. If you donโt believe me, try knocking on her door. She wonโt open it for you either. Stop longing for something that doesnโt belong to you; itโll be in vain.โ
Hansel walked past him and down the stairs. Paul watched him go, then glanced at Mirandaโs door, frowning in puzzlement. He knew Miranda wouldn't open the door for himโor anyone, for that matterโbecause she wasn't there.
Chapter 94
The weather in Marvedis was glorious. Waves lapped the shore, and fish swam in the sparkling blue ocean. The sun was warm, and the breeze gentle.
Three days earlier, Miranda had received a call from Winter. Her friend had finished her project, and Marshall had returned home for winter break. Winter, bored after two days of idleness, impulsively invited Miranda on a trip.
โAs for our destinationโฆโ Winter stroked her chin. โLetโs go to Marvedis.โ
Miranda briefly considered it before agreeing. โOkay.โ
Besides escaping the turmoil with Sam and Hansel, she needed a rest. While she loved reading and studying, she knew constant pressure wasn't healthy. Balance was key.
Now, lying on a beach chair, gazing at the ocean and sky, and listening to the waves, she was pleased with her decision. She sipped her mango juiceโperfectly sweet.
Nearby, Winter approached in a revealing outfit. Seeing Miranda's relaxation, she settled into the chair beside her. โOh, this feels good. You know how to enjoy yourself.โ
