Chapter 115: Make Her Regret It
His mother often told him that Stella desired his uncle's child and sought to compete with him for the Rainsworth family's future leadership. This might explain his actions.
Jonathan lowered the book, his gaze shifting to the other two children. "What do you plan to do?"
The youngsters exchanged puzzled glances. Felix approached, pursing his lips. "Jon, what do you think we should do?"
Jonathan knew they lacked a concrete plan, but he'd already decided. He secretly shared his strategy with the attentive children.
A little girl approached. "Jon, what are you guys talking about?"
Felix pushed her aside. "Go away! Don't interrupt a serious conversation among men." The girl pouted, close to tears.
Meanwhile, Stella applied her makeup in a minivan. Her assistant suggested, "Stella, it's just a child. Can't we send a housekeeper?"
Stella glared. "He's not just any child; he's the Rainsworth family's eldest great-grandson. Do you think anyone could pick him up?"
Niel's disdain at the banquet still stung. Winning over Felix, Niel's favorite, would surely appease the old man.
Stella instinctively touched her abdomen, wondering when she'd carry Nathaniel's child. A child with Nathaniel would grant her any desire.
A phone call interrupted. Stella answered, lowering her voice. "Haven't I told you not to call?"
A man pleaded, "Stella, please come back! I miss you; I can't go on without you. You and Nathaniel aren't married, and after all these years, he won't."
Stella gripped the phone tightly. "If you cared, you'd want me happy. Stop calling."
Fearing eavesdropping, she abruptly ended the call, missing the man's announcement that he was coming to Tudela. Noticing her assistant's curious look, Stella quickly lied, "Just a fan."
They arrived at the preschool. Stella donned a mask and sunglasses before exiting the vehicle.
She waited patiently by the door for Felix, but he didn't appear. Instead, a sturdy boy approached.
"You're Stella, right? Felix is in the restroom. He asked me to tell you to wait in the classroom." Dante's performance was convincing.
Stella brightened. "All right," she replied, heading to the classroom, oblivious to Dante's triumphant smile.
Cecilia and Vivian arrived to find a large crowd at the kindergarten entrance, some taking photos.
Vivian asked, confused, "Is something wrong? Ceci, wait in the car; I'll get Jon."
"Okay." Cecilia always waited in the car during pickups. Vivian navigated the crowd, hearing snippets of excited chatter.
