Chapter 124 Her Real Motive
After escorting Cecilia to Nathaniel's office entrance, Mason left. The door was ajar; Cecilia gently pushed it open. Nathaniel sat at his desk, engrossed in a document. Cecilia found him incredibly attractive, even in his focused state. She reflected that his handsome face had initially deceived her.
Nathaniel, aware of her arrival, didn't look up. "Come here," he said.
Cecilia approached. "Is there something you need?" she asked.
"From now on, you won't work downstairs. This will be your office," he said, setting down his documents and looking at her.
Cecilia asked, confused, "Why?"
"No particular reason. It's the company's arrangement," he replied. It was clearly Nathaniel's arrangement, but Cecilia wouldn't refuse.
"Alright," she said. This is for the best, she thought, it gives me more opportunities to get closer to him. She also considered the low probability of pregnancy from their encounter the previous night.
"I'll bring up my computer," Cecilia said.
Before she could leave, her belongings, including her computer and desk, had already been moved into the office. Nathaniel joined her, observing her supplies.
"I'm curious," he said. "What have you been so busy with these past few days?"
Cecilia, a former housewife with no prior work experience, turned to him. "Do you want to know? I can show you." Otherwise, she thought, there's no reason for his behavior yesterday.
Nathaniel showed interest. "Alright."
Under his intense gaze, Cecilia opened her laptop, revealing her recent work. Nathaniel was surprised to see numerous collaborative project files. When did she learn to do this? he wondered.
Looking up, Cecilia met his gaze. She took a deep breath. "You must have been quite uncomfortable last night, weren't you?"
Nathaniel stiffened, his gaze dropping to meet hers; a lump formed in his throat. Cecilia leaned closer, her lips near his. "Actually, I was quite uncomfortable too," she whispered.
Nathaniel's brow furrowed with curiosity. This wasn't like her. He remembered her shyness even with the slightest touch after their marriage. But now, despite her composed facade, Nathaniel saw through her. He placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to visibly shudder.
Nathaniel's eyes flickered. "If you're not feeling well, go to the hospital. I'm not a doctor."
Cecilia was taken aback. Is he genuinely clueless, or is he pretending? Is this deliberate?
Her words apparently failing, Cecilia leaned in again, her lips brushing his. "What I'm referring to is this kind of discomfortโฆ"
The scent of her perfume was intoxicating. He sensed something: Cecilia didn't truly want him. What was her real motive? Their interaction was clumsy, the office air heavy with unspoken tension.
