Chapter 156 Bury the Hatchet
โI never issued such an order,โ Nathaniel stated, his voice cool and detached.
Yet, Nancy refused to leave. When the bodyguard approached, she clung even tighter to the table and chair. โMr. Rainsworth, the person who hit me said it was because I didnโt know my place and offended you. Please, spare me. I donโt wish to die here,โ she pleaded, her face marred by wounds and tears. Even after healing, scars would undoubtedly remain.
Nathaniel hadn't initially wanted to intervene, but Nancy's account suggested someone was using his name to punish herโsomething he couldn't ignore. He had the bodyguard release Nancy, then said, โExplain this in detail.โ
Kneeling, trembling uncontrollably, Nancy recounted, โIt was the day after I saw you. Around two or three in the morning, after work, they yanked me from bed. They berated and struck me, saying I shouldn't even think of bothering you. Since then, the company has been arranging for me to entertain clientsโฆโ Tears streamed down her face. โIf I refused, they hit meโฆโ
Nathaniel knew his subordinates wouldn't dare act without his explicit orders. He had his bodyguard escort Nancy from the Elite Club and ordered an investigation. Since the incident occurred at the club, the investigation proved easy.
Over an hour later, the bodyguard reported, โMr. Rainsworth, Ms. Ross orchestrated the attack on Nancy.โ
Stella again. Nathaniel hadn't previously paid attention to her actions, but this was too blatant. โTell Stella I won't forgive her if this happens again.โ The bodyguard nodded.
It was the first time Nathaniel had shown such anger towards Stella. What bothered him wasn't her actions toward other women, but using his name to do so.
The next morning, Stella was shocked to learn Nathaniel knew of her involvement. Initially, she thought it inconsequential. However, the bodyguard's message made it clear she'd crossed a line. While trying to devise an explanation, she received a lawyer's letter from Cecille regarding the plagiarism case; the court had already accepted it. She no longer knew how to approach Nathaniel.
โIf only Zachary would help meโฆโ she muttered, sighing. Zachary had always given her what she wanted, unlike Nathaniel. But now, he refused to help.
Her manager advised, โThis can't continue. Isn't Vivian Ms. Cecille's lawyer? Swallow your pride and apologize. You could bury the hatchet.โ News of Stella's plagiarism was widespread; fighting the case would be fruitless.
โI guess thatโs all I can do.โ Reluctantly, she decided to apologize to Cecille's friend. โHelp me arrange a meeting.โ
Cecilia was awakened by Vivian's call. She'd slept poorly, disturbed by Nathaniel's offer of a hundred million per session. โWhatโs up?โ
โStella wants to meet! She wants to apologize for the plagiarism and expects me to go see her. I told her to come to my place,โ Vivian said, smirking. Why should the recipient of the apology travel?
โYou did the right thing. She had you in the police station all day. Don't let her off easily.โ
โYeah. You should come too, Ceci.โ Vivian wanted Cecilia to witness Stella's submissive apology.
