Chapter 160: Picking Calvin Up

Everyone was surprised. Nathaniel had never before left a meeting early. Under pleading gazes, Mason reluctantly followed him out.

โ€œMr. Rainsworth?โ€

Nathaniel hushed him, then picked up his phone, intending to call Cecilia. He hesitated, fearing she would misinterpret the call. He switched off his phone.

He remained restless all day, skipping dinner and instructing his driver to return home. He entered to an unnerving silence, darkness enveloping him. He lay on the sofa, consumed by gloom, periodically unlocking his phone, unsure what he expected.

Eventually, his phone lit up. A message from his bodyguard: "Ms. Smith has left, seemingly heading toward the airport."

His eyes narrowed. He felt Cecilia might be running away, the thought of her disappearing for years overwhelming him. He grabbed his keys and rushed out. He floored the gas pedal the entire journey.

He called Spring Forest Manor's butler: "Check if the child is still there." The butler, though asleep, responded immediately.

Elliot was quietly asleep. "The child is still there," the butler reported. Nathaniel felt relieved; Elliot's presence suggested Cecilia wouldn't leave. Spring Forest Manor's tight security reinforced this. He cautioned, "Be careful tonight." "Understood," the butler replied, activating the estate's security systems.

Nathaniel arrived at the airport. He saw Cecilia exiting a car and entering the terminal. She checked the time; Calvin's plane was over ten minutes out. She had looked around before leaving for the airport, assuming Nathaniel's people would be resting. Unbeknownst to her, he was already on the second floor, observing her.

At eleven o'clock, Cecilia moved toward the exit. Nathaniel realized she was picking someone up. A group approached, led by a tall, handsome man in cool-toned attire. Cecilia greeted him warmly.

Calvin strode toward her. "Why did you come alone? Where's Sven?" he asked, concerned for her safety.

"I had him sleep in the car," Cecilia replied, rejecting his offer of additional men: "No need; this is too restrictive." She felt uneasy observing Calvin's bodyguards.

"All right, then. I've returned anyway," Calvin smiled. "Let's go. Vivian and Jon can't wait to see you. They insisted on staying awake to see you before sleeping."

Cecilia and Calvin walked away, laughing and talking. Nathaniel watched, his expression somber. She hadn't come home because she was meeting Calvin.
