Chapter 181: Switch Them Back
Sean clung to hope for Stella until Calvin's men led him to an address intended to deceive her. Seeing a group of policemen hidden in the bushes, Sean, inside the black sedan, was stunned.
"See? That woman never intended to save you. She's been using you," the bodyguard assigned to Sean stated.
Sean shook his head. "I don't believe it. Her phone might have been tapped!"
The bodyguard was surprised by Sean's reluctance to accept the truth. Calvin's task was to show Sean Stella's true nature; since that hadn't happened yet, they could afford to wait.
The bodyguard drove away, leaving those who'd come to capture Sean empty-handed. Stella had expected Sean's capture; his escape surprised her. Worry gnawed at her; she felt lost.
At Daltonia Villa, after her hospital discharge, Cecilia received a call from Vivian. Jonathan's voice, filled with concern, was the first thing she heard. "Mommy, have you been alright lately?"
Cecilia had explicitly forbidden Calvin from mentioning the accident to Vivian and Jonathan, so Jonathan remained unaware.
"Yeah," Cecilia replied gently. "How are you at school? Did you behave? Did you cause any trouble for Ms. Kennedy?"
"Mommy, I'm not a three-year-old anymore," Jonathan said seriously, glancing around the messy room. His gaze rested on Vivian, engrossed in her legal documents. He sighed quietly. Mommy doesn't know, but I'm actually the one taking care of Ms. Kennedy. And she's… well, kind of stupid.
Vivian noticed his gaze. Smiling playfully, she held up a beginner's law book. "Yeah, she's stupid."
Chapter 1611: Switch Them Back
After chatting with Jonathan for a while, Cecilia asked him to give Vivian the phone. He reluctantly handed it over.
"Mommy wants to talk to you," he said.
"Okay," Vivian replied, taking the call with one hand while holding a book in the other.
"Ceci, don't worry about Jon. He's doing well. You wouldn't believe it, but he's got the whole preschool listening to him…" Vivian recounted Jonathan's recent school exploits.
Cecilia listened quietly, feeling a pang of guilt for her inability to always be present for her children's growth. Their conversation flowed easily. Vivian made plans for a spontaneous trip after the lawsuit concluded, and Cecilia agreed, despite knowing it would be a long journey.
Before hanging up, Jonathan reminded Cecilia to drink milk and take vitamins. A warmth filled Cecilia's heart.
Nathaniel left that afternoon; his return was uncertain. Cecilia, wanting to rest, strolled through the garden. She had designed Daltonia Villa's garden, but Nathaniel's dislike of vibrant colors had led to a stark transformation. The once-blooming paradise now held only leafless plants, reflecting Nathaniel's austere nature.
While strolling, she discovered a cluster of wild daisies. She stopped to observe them quietly.
When Nathaniel returned, he didn't find her inside. Stepping outside, he saw her lost in thought, gazing at the wildflowers. He remembered their wedding day, when she, covered in dirt, proudly showed him the colorful flowers she'd planted. His cold response then: "Switch them back."
That night, she silently cried as she removed those painstakingly planted flowers. Nathaniel didn't disturb her; instead, he called the butler at Painsworth Manor.
"Mr. Liam, invite some gardeners tonight to plant some flowers."
