Chapter 262: Are You Really Pregnant?
โDonโt worry,โ Cecilia said. โHe never loved me. He wonโt keep looking for me. Give it time, and heโll give up.โ She believed Nathaniel sought her only because he disliked losing, not out of genuine affection. She had already given him a substantial sum to settle their affairs.
Vivian stared at the ceiling, then asked, โSo, are you planning to find a father for Jon and Eli?โ
Cecilia was surprised. Her focus had been solely on raising her children; remarriage hadn't been a consideration. She shook her head. โIโm financially stable and can care for them. I donโt want a stepfather for themโit might not be good for them.โ
Cecilia placed her hand on her lower abdomen. Vivianโs eyes widened. โReally? Are you pregnant?โ
Cecilia nodded slightly. โYes. I went for a checkup when I arrived, and Iโm already a month along.โ
Vivian, curious, placed her hand on Ceciliaโs abdomen. โThatโs great! In nine more months, Eli will be able to have his surgery.โ
โActually, itโs eight,โ Cecilia corrected. Sheโd previously explained to Vivian that pregnancies typically last nine months, not ten.
โOh, I see,โ Vivian said, withdrawing her hand. She then updated Cecilia on events at home. โDid you hear? Stellaโs reputation is severely damaged. And everyone online says Nathaniel is being cheated on.โ
Cecilia anticipated this, but not Nathanielโs complete disregard for public opinion. โDidnโt the Rainsworth family always suppress negative publicity?โ she asked.
Vivian shook her head. โIโm not sure. My father said the Rainsworth Group hired a CEO, with Nathaniel managing behind the scenes.โ
โEnough about him. Letโs sleep,โ Cecilia suggested.
โAll right,โ Vivian agreed. After a few daysโ rest, Vivian planned to return home. She'd come to Tudela for two reasons: to help Cecilia and to reconcile with Ernest, her first love.
At Daltonia Villa, upon learning Ceciliaโs location, Nathaniel immediately booked a flight abroad without a word.
Mason knocked.
โCome in,โ Nathaniel called, not bothering to change.
Mason found the room in disarrayโempty liquor bottles scattered everywhere. It was hardly a home. He voiced his concern. โMr. Rainsworth, there are company issues. Perhaps you should check them?โ
Despite hiring exceptional people, without Nathanielโs leadership, many Rainsworth elders were difficult to manage.
Nathaniel wasnโt interested. โIโm busy.โ
Mason was astonished. When had Mr. Rainsworth ever neglected work? Remembering Nathanielโs previous reprimands for interfering, Mason remained silent.
Another knock came. Mason answered to find a man he vaguely recognized. โYou are?โ he asked.
โNorman Jenkins, the lawyer Ms. Cecilia Smith retained. We met a few years ago.โ
Mason instantly recalled Ceciliaโs divorce settlement with Nathaniel. Before he could react, Norman entered. Seeing Nathanielโs state, he paused, then produced documents from his briefcase.
โMr. Rainsworth, Cecilia asked me to have you sign this on her behalf.โ
Hearing Ceciliaโs name, Nathanielโs gaze sharpened. โWhat document?โ
Norman stepped forward, handing him the papers. โMy client entrusted me with a substantial sum to repay the betrothal gift from before your marriage. She hopes this settles all past matters.โ
