Chapter 264 He Found Her

Nathaniel stood in the doorway, staring at the all-too-familiar figure inside. It had only been two weeks since he last saw her, but it felt like an eternity. The bodyguards stood guard outside.

Nathaniel entered, and the air in the room seemed to thicken.

โ€œI thought I made myself clear,โ€ Cecilia began.

Nathaniel, backlit, was difficult to read. He remained silent, his gaze unwavering.

Cecilia, unused to his intensity, took a step back. โ€œYouโ€™ve received the money from Mr. Jenkins, right? Weโ€™re done,โ€ she said.

Nathaniel remained silent, his eyes fixed on her. He slowly raised a hand, intending to touch her shoulder, but she stepped away.

Cecilia took a deep breath. โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

Nathanielโ€™s hand froze. His voice was calm but firm. โ€œI want you to come home with me.โ€

โ€œGo home?โ€ Cecilia laughed bitterly. โ€œWhat home? Daltonia Villa? That was never my home.โ€

The words, once his, now echoed back, piercing him deeply. He hadnโ€™t imagined Cecilia could hurt him so profoundly.

โ€œWeโ€™re not divorced yet!โ€ he said.

โ€œWeโ€™re just a couple in name,โ€ Cecilia retorted.

A heavy weight pressed on Nathanielโ€™s chest. He grasped her shoulder, his gaze intense. โ€œWhat do you mean โ€˜a couple in nameโ€™? Just last month, you were in my bed! Do you want me to remind you of the sounds you made?โ€

Smack!

Cecilia slapped him. Her face flushed with anger. โ€œMr. Rainsworth, youโ€™re the CEO of a corporation. Surely you understand the concept of acting and parting on good terms?โ€

Actingโ€ฆ Was that all it was to her?

Nathanielโ€™s cheek stung, but the inner pain was far worse. He felt betrayed, abandoned. His voice dropped, pleading. โ€œAre you still upset about the past? I didnโ€™t love Stella. I only cared for her because she saved my mother. Iโ€ฆ I promise it wonโ€™t happen again.โ€

He felt utterly insignificant. But Ceciliaโ€™s eyes remained cold, unmoved. Some wounds, she knew, never healed. She remembered his coldness, his cruelty, the unreturned love. The weight of it all made her distrustful of men and love itself.

โ€œI donโ€™t need it. All I want is for you to leave,โ€ Cecilia said.

Nathanielโ€™s grip tightened, his eyes burning. โ€œYou want me to leave? Thatโ€™s not going to happen!โ€

He moved closer, wanting to comfort her, to apologize, but he didn't know how. Even the words โ€œI think Iโ€™m falling for youโ€ felt too risky.

He lowered his head, intending to kiss her.

โ€œLet go of me!โ€ Cecilia struggled.

Outside, chaos erupted. Someone burst in and punched Nathaniel, splitting his lip. He looked upโ€”it was Calvin. The dignified gentleman was gone, replaced by a furious attacker. Soon, the two were locked in a fierce fight.
