Chapter 287: You Would Do Anything For Money
Cecilia forced herself to calm down. Peering from a distance, she saw the documents consisted of various photographs. She couldn't quite discern their contents.
Ernest handed her a selection of the photos, all from the past. They depicted her attempting to seduce Nathaniel to become pregnant.
Cecilia's mind went blank; she clenched her fists. She never imagined this would affect her, nor that Nathaniel still possessed these photos.
Vivian offered a reassuring glance, suggesting the photos only proved an emotional connection between them. One of the divorce conditions involved domestic abuse, and Nathaniel's coldness fit the criterion.
Unexpectedly, Ernest denied any alleged abuse, stating, "Your Honor, the opposing lawyer accuses my client of emotional abuse. I ask, how do we define emotional abuse? Is there a medical diagnosis?" His gaze, cold and detached, rested on Vivian, as if she were a stranger.
Vivian instinctively avoided his gaze. Ernest leaned in, his voice pressing, "Ms. Kennedy, did you obtain the hospital's diagnosis results?"
Vivian, breathing rapidly, trembled. "Isn't my client's major depression sufficient proof?"
Ernest withdrew his gaze. "Depression has five main causes: hereditary factors; health and illness; medication and alcohol; personality traits; and social factors. Ms. Kennedy, how can you definitively attribute your client's depression to my client?"
He then presented evidence: "Ms. Smith began drinking heavily two years after her marriage. Her mother, Paula, a renowned dancer, has a diagnosed mild mental disorder. Ms. Smith has been hard of hearing since birth. This indicates her depression stems from hereditary, health, and substance-related factors, unrelated to my client."
Vivian was stunned by his audacity.

Enraged, she shouted, "You're twisting the facts!"
Ernest's gaze remained detached. "If you believe I'm deceitful, Ms. Kennedy, present your evidence."
Vivian exploded. "Ernest, you bastard! You would do anything for money!"
"Order! Order!" The judge called for a recess after Vivian's outburst.
Cecilia restrained Vivian, preventing her from attacking Ernest.
After the adjournment, Vivian apologized profusely in the break room. "I'm sorry! It was my fault! I didn't expect his lawyer to be Ernest. I was completely unprepared."
Ernest was a top-tier Drocver lawyer with only one known loss. This case was a simple matter for him.
Cecilia comforted Vivian, "It's alright. I don't blame you. Winning or losing doesn't matter." Losing meant simply returning to the starting point.
Vivian, increasingly guilty, excused herself. "I need the restroom. Wait here, Ceci."
"All right."
But Vivian didn't go to the restroom. She went to the break room where Ernest and the others were.
