Chapter 288: Nothing But Liars
Inside the break room, Nathaniel pinched the bridge of his nose and turned to Ernest. "Where did you get those photos?"
He hadn't allowed casual photographs when he was with Cecilia. Ernest didn't hide the truth. "Surveillance camera footage." Since losing a lawsuit, Nathaniel avoided battles he couldn't win. He was incredulous; obtaining so many surveillance photos was a significant undertaking.
Outside, Vivian's conversation with the bodyguard drifted in. "I'm sorry, Ms. Kennedy, you cannot enter." "Fine. Ask Ernest to come out. I need to see him."
Ernest stood. "I'll handle this." "Okay," Nathaniel replied, knowing Ernest's ambition. He wouldn't sacrifice fame and fortune for a woman. This divorce would undoubtedly thrust both parties' lawyers into the public eye.
The sharp sound of a slap echoed down the hall. Ernest remained unmoving. Vivian's trembling hand slowly lowered. "Have you had enough?" Ernest asked coldly.
Tears welled in Vivian's eyes. "As Nathaniel's lawyer, don't you know what kind of person he is? How miserable my friend has been? He was reluctant to harm Cecilia, but his mother, Elena, pressured her to take traditional medicine and undergo examinations, hoping for a pregnancy. Even though Cecilia loved him wholeheartedly, he was always preoccupied with other women. He even ruined her father's company! Although he never physically harmed Cecilia, his actions were far worseโdespicable and shameless!"
Vivian meticulously detailed Nathaniel's failings, hoping Ernest would champion justice, as he once had.

Regrettably, people change.
Ernest interrupted coldly, "Ms. Kennedy, I'm just a lawyer, not an embodiment of justice. I'm fulfilling my duties."
Vivian's vision blurred. "B-But you once said you wanted to be a lawyer for impoverished people who couldn't afford justice!"
Ernest chuckled coldly. "Aren't you naive, Ms. Kennedy? Those words were to deceive girls like you, to ingratiate myself with the Kennedy family. Since your father rejected me, there's no point in maintaining the charade."
Under her astonished gaze, he added, "If you want to win, show me what you're capable of. Don't think shedding tears will make me yield."
Vivian froze, consumed by self-mockery. She'd believed she could restore Ernest to his former self, unaware his past was a deception. All these so-called justice-seeking lawyers are nothing but liars!
Her throat ached. She'd admired Ernest, remembering his dream even after their breakup. Despite her father's disapproval, she'd become a lawyer, continuing her legal aid work alongside her Kennedy family responsibilities. That day, her faith crumbled.
Meanwhile, Cecilia sat alone in the break room, clutching her phone. She knew another way to win the lawsuit.
