Chapter 298: The Divorce Falls Through Again

Cecilia watched from a short distance as Mason spoke to Nathaniel before approaching her. His astute eyes, slightly reddened beneath his gold-rimmed glasses, fixed on her.

โ€œMs. Smith, donโ€™t you think youโ€™ve crossed a line?โ€

The accusation made Ceciliaโ€™s heart clench. Mason glanced at Nathaniel. โ€œMr. Rainsworth became like this to save you. How could you take advantage of his amnesia to divorce him?โ€

Cecilia recalled seeing Nathaniel with Mason earlier and suspecting feigned amnesia. Her eyes darkened. โ€œWhat do you mean by โ€˜taking advantageโ€™? Before his accident and amnesia, Iโ€™d already informed him of my intention to divorce.โ€

She walked past Mason to Nathanielโ€™s side. โ€œIโ€™m here, Nathaniel,โ€ she announced.

Nathaniel, avoiding her gaze, rose and called out, โ€œMason.โ€

โ€œMr. Rainsworth,โ€ Mason replied, stepping forward.

โ€œLetโ€™s finalize the divorce,โ€ Nathaniel said coolly. He appeared to show no signs of amnesia.

The two men proceeded, Cecilia following. At the divorce counter, Mason stood back as the clerk noticed Nathanielโ€™s blindness. Checking the records, the clerk stated, โ€œYou filed for divorce five years ago and again recently, but the court rejected it.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s correct,โ€ Cecilia nodded. โ€œHeโ€™s now willing to agree.โ€

The clerk, recognizing Nathanielโ€™s name from recent news, realized he was the Orion Corporation owner. Hesitantly, he asked, โ€œMr. Rainsworth? Your eyesโ€ฆ are theyโ€ฆ?โ€ He couldnโ€™t bring himself to say โ€œblind.โ€

Nathaniel, disliking pity, said, โ€œPlease proceed.โ€

The clerk apologized. โ€œMs. Smith, your previous divorce case was rejected; you must wait six months before reapplying.โ€

Cecilia retorted, โ€œWeโ€™re both willingly divorcing now!โ€

Nathaniel sat beside her, a sharp pain in his throat as he heard her impatience. โ€œYes, we willingly choose to divorce,โ€ he said, his voice deep and hoarse.

The clerk, after a sympathetic glance at Nathaniel, turned a cold stare toward Cecilia. โ€œMs. Smith, if either party has limited capacity for civil conduct, City Hall may not accept a divorce application. Before, your husband had a successful career, but you didn't divorce him. Now, in this state, you want a divorce? Don't you think you're too heartless?โ€

Ceciliaโ€™s eyes reddened with frustration. โ€œHeโ€™s blind, not stupid! I filed for divorce when he had a successful career. He never showed any concern or support for me then, so why should I compromise now?โ€

Her outburst drew everyoneโ€™s attention, including onlookers who began taking photographs of Nathaniel standing beside her.
