Chapter 299: His Amnesia Is Real

In the end, the divorce application failed. Nathaniel and even Mason were astonished; Cecilia, usually gentle and weak-willed, had acted decisively that day. Nathaniel's bodyguards escorted them to their car, discreetly followed by onlookers. One could only imagine the ensuing online buzz.

Cecilia sat in the car, eyes brimming with tears. Nathaniel sat beside her, hands clasped in his lap, feeling lost. After a long silence, he said, "I've wronged you in the past." Cecilia remained silent, her lips pursed. Nathaniel's heart ached at her unresponsive silence. He began, "In my recollection, you loved me dearly, and Iโ€ฆ" He trailed off, unable to confess his own past feelings. He recalled only her complaints at City Hall. He realized he had treated her poorly.

Cecilia remained silent, head bowed, fighting back tears. She had endured much unfairness, yet others perceived her as only benefiting from Nathaniel's success. Since his blindness, her desire for a divorce seemed ungrateful. Nathaniel's hearing, sharpened by his blindness, picked up her soft sobs. He placed his hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry."

Cecilia stiffened. He had never apologized before. She looked up, surprised by his awkward gesture.

Chapter 298: The Divorce Falls Through Again

Due to recent news, he immediately recognized the person before him. He could hardly believe the owner of Orion Corporation stood before him. "Are you Mr. Rainsworth? Your eyesโ€ฆ are theyโ€ฆ?" He hesitated, unable to say "blind." Nathaniel, disliking pity, said, "Please proceed."

The staff member responded, "I'm sorry, Ms. Smith. Your previous divorce petition was rejected; you must wait six months to reapply."

Cecilia retorted, "I told you we both willingly want a divorce."

Nathaniel sat beside her, feeling a sharp pain in his throat as he listened to her impatience. "Yes, we willingly choose to divorce," he said, his voice deep and hoarse.

The staff member gave Nathaniel a sympathetic glance, then coldly addressed Cecilia. "Ms. Smith, if either party lacks capacity for civil conduct, City Hall may not accept a divorce application. People say never forget a wife who shared her husband's hardship; the same applies to a husband. Before, your husband had a successful career, but you didn't divorce him. Now that he's blind, you want a divorce? Aren't you heartless?"

Cecilia's eyes reddened with frustration. "He's blind, not stupid! I filed for divorce when he had a successful career. He was successful but showed no concern or support; why shouldn't I divorce him now?"

Her outburst drew everyone's attention. People noticed Nathaniel, and began taking photos.

Chapter 299: His Amnesia Is Real (Continued)

A pang of bitterness filled Nathaniel's heart. Cecilia pushed his hand away. "Don't touch me." Nathaniel's hand remained suspended before retracting it. "Okay." His simple agreement confirmed her belief in his amnesia. It seemed his personality had also changed; however, in reality, it hadn't. Nathaniel, aware of Cecilia's distress, coldly ordered Mason and the driver, "Stop the car. Mason and the rest out."

Only Nathaniel and Cecilia remained. The silence was profound. "Cry if you want to," he said solemnly.

Cecilia remained silent. Nathaniel, terrified of losing her, gently reached out, his tense heart relaxing slightly at her presence. "Don't worry. Even if we didn't divorce, I won't bother you, nor will I be a burden."

Cecilia remained silent. Nathaniel softened his voice. "Should we divorce in six months? I won't go back on my word."

"Okay, it's a deal," Cecilia finally said.

Nathaniel's heart sank. "Yeah, it's a deal."

After Cecilia left, Nathaniel felt unbearable pain. Mason entered the car. "Mr. Rainsworth, are we heading back to the hospital?"

Nathaniel shook his head. "Take me back to where I used to live."

Nathaniel didn't know where he used to live. He awoke in the hospital, only Cecilia's face and voice etched in his memory. Elena informed him that he and Mason had worked together for years.

Mason dropped Nathaniel off at Daltonia Villa, then called the medical staff. Nathaniel interrupted, "I don't like strangers around." Mason hung up. "Shall I take care of you personally?"

"I don't like strangers around," Nathaniel said coldly. Mason froze. Mr. Rainsworth is treating me like a stranger.
