Chapter 312: Jonathan Has a Plan
Vivian initially intended to gossip, but ended her call abruptly when Jonathan arrived.
โJon, youโre back already? Did school let out early?โ Vivian asked, surprised by his early return.
Jonathan, having overheard Vivian's conversation with Cecilia, knew his "scumbag daddy" was living with his mother due to amnesia and blindness. No wonder Mommy was so eager to send me away, he thought.
โYeah, the teacher said the weather was getting colder and we were dismissed early on Fridays. Didn't she mention this in the group chat?โ Jonathan replied innocently.
Vivian slapped her forehead. โIโm sorry, I forgot to check the group messages.โ
Without a driver, Jonathan had walked home alone. Feeling guilty, Vivian attempted to compensate.
โCome here, I owe you a kiss as an apology,โ she said, leaning down.
Jonathan dodged her, displaying clear distaste. โDonโt wanna.โ
Vivian pouted. โAll right then.โ
Jonathan added, โMs. Kennedy, if youโre feeling guilty, why donโt you take me back to Sparaville for the weekend? We can spend it with Mommy!โ He was eager to see his father.
Vivian immediately refused. Sheโd promised Cecilia she wouldnโt let Jonathan see Nathaniel.
Jonathan casually mentioned, โA few days ago, I read a news story about a five-year-old who was heading home alone and got into a car accident. There was also a six-year-old who was kidnapped by human traffickersโฆโ
Vivian sighed, guilt mounting. โI promise Iโll never forget to pick you up from school again,โ she vowed.
Jonathan, feeling victorious, said, โThen I want to visit a friendโs house this weekend.โ
Relieved he wasnโt insisting on Sparaville, Vivian readily agreed. โAll right, you can visit your friend.โ
Unbeknownst to Vivian, Jonathan had a plan. He'd initially considered telling her about his weekend plans, fearing her disapproval. Instead, he'd suggested Sparaville, anticipating her refusal. Now, with her agreement, he could proceed.
That day, back at preschool, children bombarded Jonathan with questions about his absence. Felix, however, pulled him aside.
โYou have no idea; Grandma Elena has been searching for you constantly since you left,โ Felix whispered. โShe even looked for your dad.โ
Jonathanโs eyes widened. Did Elena find out Iโm Nathanielโs son?
โDid she mention who my dad is?โ Jonathan asked.
Felix shook his head. โShe didnโt say anything specific, but Iโve seen him. Heโs tall and quite handsome.โ
Jonathan realized Felix was mistaken. If Felix had seen Nathaniel, his description would have been more precise.
โDid he live at your place?โ Jonathan asked.
โNo, but heโs been visiting Grandma Elena these past few days,โ Felix replied.
Felix, puzzled, asked, โWhy would you ask? Donโt you know where your dad lives?โ
Jonathan sighed. โFrom the moment I was born, he abandoned my mom and me. Iโve never met him.โ
Felixโs expression softened. โYou should come to my place tomorrow. You might get to see him.โ
โOkay,โ Jonathan agreed.
The Rainsworth estate was threatened. Though Jonathan disliked his "scumbag daddy," he wouldn't let others take what was rightfully his family's. Even if his father had died, he, his brother, and his mother remained the primary inheritors.
