Chapter 318: The Encounter

Jonathan accompanied Felix to the Rainsworth residence. Officially, their purpose was to meet the father Elena had found for him. In reality, Jonathan wanted to see who was attempting to replace his father. He specifically requested Felix bring him to Nathaniel's residence.

"Jon, it seems he didn't come today," Felix sighed. "We won't be able to meet him." He was still considering confronting the man who abandoned his wife and child, perhaps with Jonathan's help.

Jonathan, though unconcerned, feigned interest. "If you ever see him, be sure to call me."

"Alright," Felix replied, patting his chest. "Once I become CEO of Rainsworth Group, I'll deal with him."

Jonathan's gaze fell upon a tall man in a black coat standing in the snow. Nicholas, a striking figure, watched them intently. His features closely resembled Nathaniel's, but Jonathan instantly recognized him as a different person. Nathaniel was still in Sparaville, and as a twin himself, Jonathan possessed a keen ability to discern subtle differences in demeanor.

Nicholas was momentarily surprised upon seeing Jonathan, noting the boy's resemblance to his younger self and his brother. He approached, and Felix, misinterpreting his uncle's arrival as a response to his earlier boast, stiffened.

"Uncle Nathaniel," Felix said.

Nicholas acknowledged him with a hum and turned to Jonathan. "Who are you?"

"Hello, Mr. Rainsworth," Jonathan replied innocently. "My name is Jonathan Smith."

Nicholas's pupils constricted slightly at the surname. Before he could question further, Jonathan asked, "Mr. Rainsworth, have we met before?"

Nicholas, avoiding a direct answer, said, "I forgot."

Jonathan, implying something, added, "Mr. Rainsworth, you really have a poor memory. Make sure nobody else finds out."

A fleeting surprise crossed Nicholas's face before he dismissed Jonathan as a child without an agenda.

Noticing Nicholas's disregard, Felix nervously explained, "Uncle Nathaniel, don't be mad. I was just kidding earlier."

Nicholas, unaware of the reason for the apology, said, "Alright, run along now with your friend."

Felix quickly took Jonathan's hand and they left. Before departing, Jonathan gave Nicholas another look, determined to uncover the man's identity and intentions.

As they turned, Nicholas saw a woman's shadow, triggering a memory of Cecilia turning to call him. "Nathaniel," he seemed to hear.

Nicholas's lips remained pursed until the children disappeared. Only then did he depart.

Later, Jonathan pressed Felix. "Felix, you claimed you'd be the future CEO of Rainsworth Group. Why are you so afraid of your uncle?"

Felix blushed. "Nonsense, I'm not scared of him. My mom said Uncle Nathaniel is incompetent and will need me to care for him in his old age."
