Chapter 319: Infiltrating the Room
The moment Felix spoke, he regretted it. However, having made such a bold claim, he found it difficult to retract his words. So, Felix covertly led Jonathan through a secluded alleyway, sneaking into the side entrance of Nathaniel's residence.
Upon arrival, Felix felt tense, yet his face beamed with satisfaction. โSee? This is where Uncle Nathaniel lives.โ Jonathan looked over and noticed the lavishly decorated room to the east, its pillars crafted from wood. Suddenly, he clutched his stomach. โOuch, my stomach hurts. I canโt stand it; I need to use the restroom.โ He didnโt wait for Felix to respond, darting off toward the east.
Felix grew frantic. โYou canโt go there! Thatโs where my uncle lives!โ Heโd barely finished speaking when he drew the housekeeper's attention. Seeing Felix, she scolded him, โMr. Felix, what are you doing here? Mr. Rainsworth doesnโt like children around. You should leave quickly, or Iโll have to call him.โ
Felix, unable to find Jonathan, worried the housekeeper might call Nathaniel, and made a hasty retreat, not forgetting to stick his tongue out at her. โMark my words,โ he warned, โfor lecturing me now, youโll be out of a job when I grow up.โ The housekeeper smirked. This brat is only four or five years old. By the time he's grown up, I'll be long retired. She returned to her cleaning, oblivious to another child stealthily entering Nathaniel's bedroom.
Nathaniel's living quarters were dominated by a monochrome color scheme, mirroring his meticulous and precise personality. Jonathan entered and began rummaging, hoping to find compromising information on his father or the imposter. He found nothing. Just as he was about to leave, footsteps echoed from downstairs. Jonathan quickly hid behind a cabinet.
The footsteps drew closer. Jonathan saw a man in slippers about to enter. He covered his mouth. Nicholas glanced around the room, noticing the slightly displaced books on the table. His gaze fell upon the cupboard, where a small hand was visible. He stepped back, didn't enter, but closed the bedroom door. He turned to the housekeeper. โIโll be out for half an hour.โ โOkay,โ she replied.
The sound of footsteps faded, and Jonathan sighed in relief. Emerging from behind the cupboard, his hand brushed against a book, causing it to fall. To his surprise, he discovered a photograph tucked inside: a picture of his mother and father from their younger days. He quickly photographed it with his phone watch and replaced the book. Before leaving, he stealthily installed a miniature camera in a vase on the balcony, then slipped away.
After leaving Nathaniel's house, Jonathan rejoined Felix, making a casual excuse. Unseen by the children, Nicholas, in a parked car, leisurely watched them leave. He picked up his phone and dialed a number. โI need you to keep an eye on a kid for me.โ Initially, it seemed a coincidence, but discovering Jonathan had secretly entered Nathaniel's room made him suspicious.
An hour later, Jonathan returned to Vivian's apartment. Nicholas, having learned Vivian was Jonathan's mother, approached the vase, his gaze fixed on the miniature camera. He removed it without hesitation. Meanwhile, Jonathan watched the video feed. โThis imposter is quite impressive; he found out so quickly.โ He shut down his computer and stared at the photo on his smartwatch, lost in thought.
At that moment, Vivian opened the door. โJonjonโฆ are you asleep?โ Startled, Jonathan immediately switched off his watch.
