Chapter 362: Let Me Take You There
Jonathanโs face darkened. How on earth had this man obtained the invitation heโd sent? He had the audacity to exploit him, leaving Jonathan no choice but to comply.
โDaddy, youโre right about everything,โ he said.
The three of them stood together, a picture-perfect family. Ernest watched the touching scene unfold, almost moved to tears, though outwardly he remained composed. โApologies, Mr. Sinclair, for the poor hospitality,โ he said.
Zachary turned, his eyes narrowing. His gaze was hard as steel, cold as ice. He spoke slowly, โItโs not just the poor hospitality. Youโve insulted my wife and son. How do we settle this? Youโre a lawyer; do you have the confidence to win your own lawsuit?โ For the Sinclairs, eliminating Ernest would be inconsequential.
Ernest knew his position. โIโm sorry. I apologize.โ
Zachary refused the apology. Turning to Vivian, Jonathan, and Cecilia, he said, โLetโs go. Thereโs no need to attend this wedding.โ
The crowd watched their departure. Ernestโs handsome features were strained. Afterwards, Zacharyโs wealthy acquaintances, finding excuses, left the wedding.
Greta stopped them at the door. โYou havenโt eaten! Why leave so soon?โ
One grumbled, โYouโve offended the Sinclairs. Who dares dine at your banquet now?โ
Greta realized the depth of her offense.
On their way from the hotel, Zachary and Vivian spoke quietly.
โYou claimed Jon isnโt my son. Did you tamper with the paternity test?โ
Zachary recalled Vivianโs visit to Jonathan during the testing. He couldnโt guarantee the procedureโs integrity. That boy is so clever. What if he switched the hair sample?
Moments before, Vivian had been grateful to Zachary; now, she wanted to berate him. โI did no such thing,โ she insisted.
โIs he really Ernestโs son, then?โ Zachary doubted their resemblance. Ernest had fine features; Jonathanโs were sharp and angular. As he matured, he would exude a masculinity far removed from Ernestโs โpretty boyโ looks.
After the wedding, Vivian no longer wished to deceive herself or others. โOf course not.โ
โStill stubborn, then?โ A smirk touched Zacharyโs lips.
Vivian remained silent.
Cecilia, walking behind them, felt bewildered. When did Zachary become so nice? He even helped Vivian! She was oblivious to Jonathanโs silent resentment towards Zachary. Unbelievable! Why was Zachary there?
They reached an extra-long Lincoln, flanked by two black cars and bodyguards. After reading Jonathanโs note, Zachary understood his role: to be supportive. Though arrogant, he rarely behaved so ostentatiously. He exuded money, power, and control.
โGet in the car,โ Zachary told Vivian. Then, turning to Cecilia, feeling guilt, he said, โWhere are you going? Let me take you there.โ He avoided her eyes.
Cecilia coldly dismissed him. Zachary choked back a reply. He wanted to speak, but Vivian, taking Jonathanโs hand, said, โWeโll leave together. No need to trouble you. Goodbye.โ
