Chapter 371: Sleeping With a Child

Under the dim yellow light, tears streamed down Jonathan's face. Seeing Cecilia, he quickly wiped them away. "Mommy."

Cecilia was momentarily stunned. "Jon, why are you crying?" She had never seen him cry before.

Jonathan averted his gaze, ensuring his tears were completely gone before looking at Cecilia again. "I wasn't crying." He glanced at Nathaniel, who stood behind Cecilia, feeling apprehensive.

Half an hour earlier, he'd gone to the bathroom and noticed the lights were still on in the house, but Cecilia and Nathaniel were gone. He'd feared Nathaniel had kidnapped Cecilia, blaming himself for not watching her closely enough. This was why he'd been crying. Being caught off guard was deeply embarrassing.

"I accidentally got water in my eyes," Jonathan explained earnestly.

Cecilia didn't expose him, surmising he'd gone to the bathroom alone, become frightened at not finding her, and started crying.

Jonathan quickly changed the subject. "Mommy, where did you and Mr. Rainsworth go?"

Not wanting to worry him, Cecilia lied, "We just went for a stroll."

Going for a stroll in this cold weather? Jonathan thought. I worried for nearly half an hour. So they strolled outside for at least that long?

He cast a wary glance at Nathaniel. Did he deceive Mommy? Mommy is too kind-hearted, while that scoundrel daddy is full of cunning schemes.

Sensing his gaze, Nathaniel said, "It was too cold outside, so we took a stroll in the car." He deliberately misled Jonathan.

A man and a woman in a car in the middle of the nightโ€ฆ

Although still a child, Jonathan had absorbed some knowledge from television. He sensed danger and forgot his embarrassment.

"Mr. Rainsworth, could you stay with me tonight? I can't sleep." I absolutely can't let him and Mommy sleep together. I have no choice but to sacrifice myself.

"No," Nathaniel firmly refused. "I prefer to sleep alone."

"What about when you get married? Will you still sleep alone?" Jonathan asked innocently.

Nathaniel's lips curled into a cold, sarcastic smile. "Have you ever taken biology? Do you know that when a man and a woman come together, it's like theyโ€”"

Before he could finish, Cecilia abruptly grabbed his arm. "Shut your mouth!" she hissed, her cheeks flushing crimson. How could he discuss such things with a child? He's not acting his age!

Nathaniel fell silent. Jonathan, however, was filled with curiosity. "Mommy, why is it that when a man and a woman come together, it's like they become one?" He was remarkably perceptive.

Cecilia leaned over and explained, "Don't listen to Mr. Rainsworth's nonsense. He's just teasing. If you're scared, you can sleep with me tonight."

Jonathan's face turned rosy. I'm practically grown up. Isn't it inappropriate to still sleep with Mommy? However, opportunities like this are rareโ€ฆ

As he hesitated, Nathaniel scooped him up and carried him to his own room. "I don't mind sleeping with a child for a night." Dreaming of sleeping with Cecilia? Not a chance!

Jonathan felt his heart sink. He could have slept with Cecilia.

Sharing a bed with Nathaniel, Jonathan secretly glanced at him and warned, "Mr. Rainsworthโ€ฆ"

Nathaniel, unusually serious, asked, "Why do you think I would deceive her?"
