Chapter 405: Cancel All Treatments

Although Nathaniel's office wasn't large, it was surprisingly filled with news articlesโ€”reports on lost children, fundraising for deaf and mute children, and others. Cecilia walked in, glancing around at the computer and a specialized cell phone for the visually impaired. Her doubts momentarily subsided.

"Carry on with your work. I won't bother you," she said.

"All right, I'll walk you out," Nathaniel replied, relieved by her apparent trust.

"No need; your work is more important," Cecilia countered, leaving alone.

On her way back, she called Vivian. "I just visited Nathaniel's office, Vivian. He's genuinely involved in charitable work."

"Has he really been reduced to that?" Vivian asked, working.

"Actually, I think his current job is quite goodโ€”helping others, living an ordinary life," Cecilia replied. She'd always valued simplicity.

"Ceci, are you softening toward him? You can't be thinking of forgiving him and starting over, right? He's blind. If he regains his memory and sight, and reverts to his old self, what will you do?"

Cecilia hesitated. Humans were fickle; nothing was guaranteed. "But I can't divorce him right now. I guess I'll play it by ear."

"Sure, but protect your assets. Don't let him trick you out of them," Vivian cautioned.

This reminded Cecilia that the chef and caregiver were paid with Nathaniel's money. He was deeply in debt; where did he get the funds to hire them?

Returning home, she inquired about their wages. Both confirmed consistent payments: the caregiver received six thousand a month, while the chef earned three thousand. Cecilia obtained their bank account details, intending to handle payroll herself. They immediately and secretly contacted Mason.

Fortunately, Nathaniel had anticipated this; they'd given Cecilia the lowest possible figures. "You've done well. From now on, opt for cheaper options when cooking or shopping," Mason advised.

Isn't Mr. Rainsworth deliberately creating hardship for himself? He's clearly wealthy, yet pretends to be poor! Mason thought.

Mason collected documents and gave them to Nathaniel. "Mr. Rainsworth, these are Orion Corporation's projects. I've taken over most of them."

"Okay," Nathaniel replied, taking the documents.

"Mr. Rainsworth, we have your final treatment this afternoon. You should regain your memory."

The mention of regaining his memory brought back Nicholas's words and Cecilia's old letter. "Cancel all treatments. I won't be going."

Mason was surprised. "Why?"

"Why have you been asking so many questions lately?" Nathaniel retorted.

Mason fell silent. After he left, Nathaniel felt deeply depressed. The woman he loved was never me, but Nicholas?

Cecilia, besides composing music, spent time with Martha, unaware that Nathaniel had recovered his memory. That day, after lunch, she considered a stroll when Magnus called, sounding intoxicated. "Cecilia, could you meet Nicholas?"
