Chapter 420: I Thought He Changed
Cecilia couldn't be bothered to argue. Annoyed, she pulled the blanket around herself, leaving Nathaniel to lie quietly beside her.
โIf youโre staying, then just sleep like this,โ she grumbled.
After turning off the light, Cecilia quickly fell asleep, her exhaustion overwhelming her. Nathaniel, however, remained awake, listening to her even breathing. Gently, he pulled her closer, savoring her warmth.
The next morning, Cecilia awoke nestled against Nathaniel's firm chest. Slowly opening her eyes, she found herself staring into his handsome face.
Panicked, Cecilia quickly disentangled herself, careful not to wake him. She threw on her coat and hurried from the bed.
Opening the bedroom door, she saw Martha awake in the living room. Martha smiled kindly. โCome here, Ceci,โ she called. โIโd like a word with you.โ
Cecilia felt embarrassed, sure Martha had misunderstood. Nevertheless, she followed Martha to her room, ready to explain. Once seated, Cecilia said, โHe insisted on staying last night. We didnโtโฆ do anything.โ
Martha chuckled softly. โCeci, thereโs no need to explain. I just want you to know that whatever you decide, Iโll always support you.โ
Cecilia nodded, grateful.
Martha hesitated. โIโve noticed Nathaniel has truly changed. It wouldnโt be a bad idea for you to be with him. The older generation believes couples should stay together, especially with a child.โ
Cecilia listened silently, unsure how to respond. Finally, she said, โIโll think about it. Donโt worry. The doctor will be here soon. You should rest before they arrive.โ
โAll right,โ Martha agreed.
After their conversation, Cecilia contacted the doctor. Once finished, Nathaniel came downstairs, fully dressed.
โCeci,โ he greeted her casually.
Cecilia, still awkward about the previous night, ignored him, pretending to be busy.
Nathaniel noticed her coldness and frowned, his handsome face serious. He assumed sheโd left because of him, and returned to his room.
Cecilia then freshened up.
Soon, the doorbell rang. Assuming it was the doctor, Cecilia opened the door to find Vivian, carrying a bag and looking restless.
โVivian, what are you doing here?โ Cecilia asked, perplexed. โWhereโs Jon?โ
โLast night, my dad kicked me out. Jonโs probably with him touring our family company,โ Vivian replied with a shrug.
Vivian explained that Roland had grown fond of Jonathan, even planning to leave him his assets in his will.
Looking around, Vivian quietly asked, โWhereโs Nathaniel?โ She was curious about the blind former CEO.
Cecilia gestured toward Nathanielโs room. โHeโs in his room.โ
โIโll go check.โ Vivian set down her bag and headed toward Nathanielโs room.
Before she could knock, the door opened, and Nathaniel stepped out. โVisitors?โ he asked.
Vivian observed him carefully. Despite his blindness, his eyes seemed normal. She felt a mix of pity and satisfactionโretribution, she thought.
Before Cecilia could respond, Vivian said, โHello, Iโm Vivian, Ceciliaโs childhood friend. You once escorted me to the police station.โ
Nathaniel replied, โI donโt remember.โ
Vivianโs face fell. How could his attitude still be so terrible? Hadnโt Martha said heโd changed?
