Chapter 421: When Did He Come Back

Vivian soon realized the change Martha described stemmed solely from Cecilia's actions. Nonetheless, Nathaniel's manner toward Martha had demonstrably improved. After a team of specialists arrived with sophisticated medical equipment, Vivian exclaimed, โ€œCeci, did you find these specialists and equipment yourself?โ€ Cecilia admitted, โ€œNathaniel helped.โ€ She remained unaware of Nathaniel's role in securing the team, a fact Martha knew but Nathaniel had urged her to keep from Cecilia. He wanted to avoid any perception of obligation or indebtedness on Cecilia's part; this, Martha believed, explained his change.

The specialists spent the morning examining and treating Martha. One then addressed Cecilia: โ€œMs. Smith, while age-related diseases aren't fully curable, surgery can extend lifespan.โ€ โ€œUnderstood. When can we schedule it?โ€ Cecilia asked. The specialist replied, โ€œShe needs medication first. We'll arrange the surgery afterward.โ€ After a final discussion, Cecilia escorted them out. Returning to Martha, she reassured her, โ€œThe specialists said surgery will significantly improve your health.โ€ Martha, understanding her condition, didn't want Cecilia to worry. Smiling warmly, she replied, โ€œThatโ€™s good. I just want more time with all of you.โ€ Cecilia hummed in agreement. Vivian continued comforting Martha, creating a harmonious atmosphere. Nathaniel left for the office after the specialists departed.

On the road, he called Mason. โ€œDid you figure out yesterdayโ€™s events?โ€ โ€œItโ€™s Nicholas,โ€ Mason replied. โ€œAnd the projects?โ€ Nathaniel pressed. โ€œEverything proceeded as planned, Mr. Rainsworth,โ€ Mason assured him, confident Nathaniel would regain control of the company well before year's end. Nathaniel ended the call.

Meanwhile, Vivian accompanied Cecilia to visit Elliot. He lay in his hospital bed, gazing out the window with a frosty expression. A nurse approached gently, โ€œEli, your mommyโ€™s here, and she brought a friend.โ€ Elliotโ€™s face brightened. โ€œReally? Yay!โ€

Vivian entered, noting Elliot's striking resemblance to Jonathan, though his face was pale. She reached to caress his cheek, but he gently avoided her touch, playfully replying, โ€œMs. Kennedy, I might have forgotten you if you hadnโ€™t come soon.โ€ Vivian's heart warmed. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Eli. May I visit more often?โ€ โ€œOkayโ€ฆโ€ He then quickly went to Cecilia, avoiding further attention from Vivian. โ€œMommy, youโ€™re here.โ€

Cecilia knelt beside him, asking gently, โ€œHow are you feeling?โ€ โ€œGreat. It doesnโ€™t hurt at all.โ€ Cecilia knew this wasn't true; it was leukemia. โ€œWould Vivian and I take you out to play today?โ€ Cecilia asked. โ€œOkay,โ€ Elliot readily agreed.

After changing his clothes, they left for the zoo. Unbeknownst to them, someone secretly filmed their outing and sent the footage to Elena. Examining the photos and videos, Elena frowned. โ€œIsnโ€™t Jon still in Tudela? When did he come back?โ€
